So you don't care about infraction of technical offences? Unless it fits your (clearly impartial) agenda?

Why the bee in your bonnet about breaking the speed limit, and only that? When it's the main factor in only 4% of accidents ('your' 28% is all in which it was a contributory - but not main - factor, but you already knew that)? Oh yes, your thoroughly peer-reviewed statement:

Quote:
Plus, of course, nobody has to die to demonstrate that speeding is aggressive, anti-social, noisy and threatening to vulnerable road users.

:? I particularly like 'noisy'. :bighand:

Oooh, emotive!

But fact-free, and missing the point that Safespeed are trying to get home: that the government's road safety policy (such as it is) is making no attempt to tackle the main causes of the other 96% of accidents.

P.S. If you want someone to show you how to do quotes, I'll give you a lesson....

So you don't care about infraction of technical offences?

There is no infringement, read my post.

Oooh, emotive!

But fact-free

I'm afraid you are rather naive if you deny the impact speeding has, even when nobody dies:

http://www.reading.ac.uk/about/newsande ... PR3936.asp

Speeding is top of the league when it comes to antisocial behaviour, a University of Reading study has shown.

Thames Valley Police approached psychologists at the University of Reading and asked them to analyse the British Crime Survey - which considers the concerns of more than 17,000 people across the UK.

Speeding traffic was rated as a significantly greater problem than all other antisocial behaviours, with 43% of the population regarded speeding traffic as a 'very' or 'fairly big' problem in their area.

Furthermore, the perception of speeding traffic as the antisocial behaviour of most concern was held by both men and women - young, middle aged, and old.

End quote.

the government's road safety policy (such as it is) is making no attempt to tackle the main causes of the other 96% of accidents.

I reckon we're up to double figures on wild accusations now. Do you have a shred of evidence that demonstrated speeding is concentrated on with all other factors excluded? You've not heard of drink driving campaigns, ads alerting teenagers to the dangers of crossing the road whilst texting, adverst warning drivers to look out for PTWs? You've never seen ANPR roadblocks or warnings about the consequences of driving whilst on drugs, street signs warning about road conditions, weather warnings?

The claim that speeding is the only factor in policies relating to road safety is absurdly paranoid and dishonest.

Oliver, have a read through the website, the forums and you'll see plenty of info, have a look on this forum for root cause analysis, accident investigation, ERICPD you'll also find this on other websites. It should give you an idea of my background and knowledge.

A lot of the information that we point too is from government published data, if you look carefully rather than cherry picking you'll find a mass of inconsistencies.

As for "Is speeding a 'real' anti-social behaviour? A comparison with other antisocial behaviours, Accid. Anal. Prev. (2006)," by Dr Damian Poulter and Professor Frank McKenna. If you pick the right questions you'll get the right answers, after all who commissioned it - a body who has a very active camera strategy and are looking for proof, what results would we get if the samples were random?

You have asked for details from me, they are here on the forum, as I said in a previous post read the website, you can find all my posts by doing a search under my user name.

As for parking on double yellow lines it is an offence albeit a technical one, however, police vehicles (and other vehicles including service or delivery vehicles) can park legally by obtaining a suspension of traffic orders. So if the camera vehicles are acting legally why are the traffic orders not produced? What better way of quieting critics?

You've thrown quite a few assumptions around here, what is your background and knowledge? Why after only half a dozen posts have you decide to agree with the sweeping generalisation made in a comment on an article? How much of the website and forum have you read?

this report has done the rounds in the safety press and has been noted for it's bias.

Where, please?

Saying "read the forum" is not really an answer, we've had a succession of dubious claims made with no evidence, I've assumed nothing and politely requested anything corroborative. Yet again we have a claim of "bias" that's been noted in some un-named, mysterious "safety press"! I'm inviting anything of substance to justify this pretty serious claim- the second time it's been made and the second time no evidence is produced after I've asked for it.

Still waiting.

So if the camera vehicles are acting legally

They aren't. Third time.

This isn't much to ask, to be honest. We've had a series of claims of dishonesty or manipulation or suppression of published research- a pretty serious allegation. The question that keeps coming back to me is that, without a single pice of corroborative facts, I don't believe them.

This was said in querying if SS was a charity:

Do the pronouncements of charities have more veracity or authority than those of non-charities just because of their legal status?

Nobody has to "believe" or otherwise what is on the SS main site or, indeed on any Government website. You just read it and make up your own mind. The information doesn't need any "peer review" as you can just ignore it if you disagree.

Update: By the 6 o'clock news (on the i-player now) Safespeed were just a "campaign group".

No road safety mentioned now.

Respectfully, if a campaign attracts the wildly paranoid posters we've seen on this thread, it's no wonder. Making daft accusations (with no evidence) that any evidence that contradicts you is "biased" and that the only aspect of road safety focused upon is speeding to the exclusion of all else would ultimately be counter-productive, I'd have thought. It demonstrates less an interest in road safety and more a kind of deluded persecution complex.

The only sites I seem to see with posters fitting this category are the pro-Global Warming and the Cycling ones. :)

Most people don't know what speeding traffic actually is, one old bloke from Gisburn used to shake his walking stick at you when doing under 30 in an appropriate gear for maximum control. Similarly old women in our village complained about tractors breaking the 30 limit, the police almost laughed at them as the tractors were incapable of exceeding the speed limit. Its all subjective as far as alleged antisocial behaviour is concerned, the Corporate Nazi's would like us to believe that is a bigger problem than it really is in order that the stock market parasites can sell expensive and with potential toll road implications Average Speed Cameras.

I can cite posts on this thread that claim a far-reaching conspiracy involving both governmental and independent research is all "biased", can you do the same with regard to the, again un-named- places you mention?

Can anyone seriously ask me to believe that the only aspect of road safety focused on is speeding?

We've had a succession of claims here, all backed up with not a shred of evidence. I hoped someone would avoid repeating the same old evasion and bluster about other mysterious places nobody seems able to name. You disappointed me.

one old bloke from Gisburn....

The plural of anecdote is not data.

Anyone who is not a complete idiot immersed in the " Corporate illusion " must by now realise that any research done by the " Universities " will reflect the answer the stock market parasites desire. If they were truly independent and based their surveys on the whole facts, the stock market parasites would not take on their graduates for high earning city posts, its all about gaining " brownie points " with the celebrity Corporate Nazi elite.

I've no idea what any of this means, but congratulations for mentioning "nazis" so early. Sheesh, this is a troubled place for troubled, scared souls.

Oliver, I would question your "experience" as a driver. How many years/miles driving experience do you actually have or are you just taking your "speed kills" stance from what you have been told?

Would you like to show me where I said that? I refute the claim that speeding is the only factor, if you have evidence that backs up the claim then go ahead and post it, I'm making it easy for you, I'm inviting you to back up what you're saying.

Why the constant evasion and misrepresentation?

Why not just answer the question...how much driving experience do you actually have?

It appears to me that the people who are "experts" on some things, actually have NO experience at all. I have never ridden a horse so I DON@T pretend to be an expert on horse riding. Unfortunately a lot of road safety "experts" don't really know much about driving.

The sooner this government actually employ peolple who actually know something about the job in hand the better but hopefully this government won't be around for much longer and maybe we will then see some "common sense" to road strategy.

It would appear that Oliver's road safety knowledge comes from a book.

Because it was a question predicated on a dishonest supposition on your part. What qualifications in statistical analyses do you have that lead you to believe the published evidence is false? Why is nobody able to respond to my points about the extreme hyperbole upthread? You have a credibility problem judging by the hasty re-classification of your campaign in the media, many of the outlandish claims made here don't help. It's up to you guys, the evasion and bluster exhibited when you're asked straightforward questions would worry me if I were in charge of your campaign.

Please, I appeal to the sensible contributors I'm sure exist here, can anyone answer my questions?
