Some of you might be interested in looking around the page of my local camera pratnership to see the propaganda they are issuing.. a claim that 84% of Essex drivers support the scameras for example.

You might also be interested in the section that covers "Covert" operations. Hidden an unadvertised cameras on the A127 in Essex!

Have been passing e-mails with Essex Camera partnership and have asked some searching questions - not that I have had any substantive replies. If they can't answer or don't want to answer then they bu**sh*t about what they 'believe'.

I was told that they 'belive' that the actual sample is representative - not sure as I'm not a statistician. but 84% of the sample group in Essex want cameras doesn't have the same ring as 84% of drivers in Essex want cameras.

A collegue who is involved with market research had a look at the question set and noticed that they are biased towards a 'yes' answer towards cameras. It would appear to me that they wanted a specific answer and possibly set the questions to get that answer.

Me cynical ?? Perhaps, but if the scheme in Essex was so great why are not seeing huge drops in accidents and deaths in Essex ?????

:?: :?: :?: :?:

hi,

it was a substantial sample, of about 15,000. I intended to pay for a mirror survey , but simply couldnt afford what they can afford. As you quite rightly point out, the questions are bias. They do do one just for drivers as well.

It's worth noting, even with their one sided questions, the support has dropped significantly from last year to this year..

they do nothing but send out rubbish facts and figures, and when corrected, refuse to put their web site right. U will note they still carry the first year results, they dare not put in year two or three. The nhs garbage etc, I struggle to find any correct fact on the whole web site. I can only suggest as u live in essex, u start writing to the local press, no point in keeping facts like this to your self. Good luck regds Bill

As Paul mentions on a page on this site, the questions are set by the DfT and they can only add further questions themselves. Presumably the surveys cost more as you add questions, so even if they wanted to add unbiased questions it wouldn't be worth it.

The DfT setting the questions is also completely pointless - they can't be used as a comparison of support of cameras between forces because the survey methods aren't defined - for instance Cumbria say they use the Council's survey "panel" of 1,000 people, but presumably they are used to answering surveys and I am sceptical that the people involved in such a scheme are representative. Other partnerships use market research groups who presumably have their own people, while others do the work themselves.

Independant research has shown results the *opposite*, eg. this YouGov poll:

http://www.yougov.com/yougov_website/as ... 1040_1.pdf

Do you think speed cameras reduce the number of accidents on the roads?

Yes - they do - 32
No - they do not - 60
Don't know - 8

Do you think there are too many functioning speed cameras, too few or the right number?

Too many cameras - 56
Too few - 19
About the right number - 17
Don't know - 8

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of speed cameras. Do you think the main reason for their installation has been:

To improve road safety - 26
To raise revenue - 71
Other - 1
Don't know - 2

Gareth
