I think it is a great part of our heritage, and it would be a shame, after all that work, if it was consigned to the scrapheap, but I honestly don't think it is that important. I could not, in good conscience, ask people to give anything to a cause like this when money is so short for so many.
If people find themselves with a few quid to spare, I would rather it was sent to a cause that will benefit actual people, like
Help for Heroes or
Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Vulcan is a magnificent aircraft, that served this country admirably, and deserves a memorial as a defender of the realm, but this memorial does not require countless hundreds of thousands to be spent flying it around airshows.
I'm disappointed when the project, having drawn so heavily on the nostalgic contributions of the services, limits the goal of its educational mission to:
Quote:
To inspire our children and grandchildren to choose a career in Britain's design, engineering and scientific industries
Is it political correctness in the wide-reaching grab for money that has led the campaign to neglect inspiring our descendants with the nobility of a career defending their country, and celebrating the service and sacrifice of those who have served before?
