There seems to be a "whatever" or disproportionate approach to closing/restricting roads for roadworks in the last couple of years or so, with works being carried out on a timescale that has complete disregard to the disruption they're causing on often arterial routes around london. The recent gas main replacement at east finchley reduced the crossroads to 4-way lights for about 5 months- FFS how long does it take to dig a hole and stuff some pipe in it? In addition I've gone out of my way to avoid a roadworks jam-up only to find the route that should be providing relief is also being dug up, you begin to wonder if they plan these things to work in parallel.
Most annoying of all is when they close a bit of road in somewhere like camden, as the number of one way streets and blocked turns create something little short of a maze where there's only one effective route point-to-point, then they come along, shut a road like it doesn't matter...
I used to think oversight for londons roads was in the hands of car-hating tofu-munching militant cyclists that didn't really understand traffic and cars, but now I think it's something worse than that; Something far more ominous... I'm not sure what exactly, but a conspiracy involving sadistic perverts attempting to bring about the downfall of civilised society is my best guess. Because the fact is, you can't be this crap by accident or ignorance, it has to be design.
