Is there a way of doing this??

Somebody I know has had TWO Range Rovers knicked over the last couple of months! (One was a recent gas conversion, the other contained a substantial tool kit!)

She knows where they are, So do the Police!

The trouble is that they are in a Pikey camp and the cops are too pussyifed to do the raid!

(Busting drivers for doing 65 on the Hogs Back is SOOooo much easier I guess!)

Is there a legal mechinisim out there to to force the police to act?

(She is (with help ) quite willing to do the buisiess herself, but has been specificaly told that she will be arrested if she does! )

I heard a story once about someone who observed a pikey site, made a list of all the stolen vehicles (recent landcruisers etc), then negotiated a deal with the vehicles insurers to recover their property. Took 20 tooled up blokes and they drove the lot away!

Hardly gonna call the cops are they? I've been expecting such things to become more common, when the police seem more interested in people eating apples at traffic lights.

As for your friend, all you can do is take every precaution and expect these scum to steal whatever they can with seeimng impunity. My van has a cat 1 security and £700 of deadbolts (all doors) and I'm still contemplating further security.

I like the insurance company approach. Probably better than the police.

If you steal your own cars back you are guilty of theft, apparently.

how is recovering property thats rightfully yours, or collecting property on behalf of the rightfull owner, theft? trespass maybe, some threatening behaviour undoubtedly, but theft?

I'd say she has every legal right to stroll onto camp pikey and drive her cars away, just as if they were parked anywhere else, by anyone else. She still owns them. Of course the police, with their idea and scale of whats right and wrong becoming increasing detached from the views held by the majority of normal people, may beg to differ, if they find out.

How does one trespass on an (almost certainly) illegal site?

How does someone that has your property illegally charge you with threatening behaviour when you go to recover it.

Vote me in a President at the next election and things will change.

Time for an official complaint ?

CC the insurers, local press and local MP ?

I would take great care! however a good list of number plates and photos would be of great interest. then go to ebay and start to sell a car and put the number plate in and instantly you get a discription of the car to cross reference with what you have observed.

As for the police ask in writing for crime statistics/ car crime stastics for your patch. Mention the freedom of informaion act. This sort of enqirey often re focuses thier attention as someone higher will have to reply to your foi request.
Ask your councilor to make enquiries about car crime.

If an insurance claim has been made then the vehicle is the property of the insurance company.



Taking without consent is taking without consent no matter where you take it from.

Sorry, I am a bit confused by that, who's consent exactly? The items owner I would presume, otherwise you would need to obtain consent to drive your car every time it was parked anywhere other than on your property.

Your best bet is to "Lay an information".

Write to the Clerk to the Justices for the county in which the vehicles are being kept. You can find the address here. http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder/
Give as much information as you can, sticking to what you know to be true. ie say that the vehicles are currently located at that address NOT that they were stolen by people living there.

The Clerk to the Justices then MUST check to see if what you allege is an offence known to law, and if so to put in place an investigation. Note that you may heave to confirm what you have written on oath and that your name and address may then be known by whoever is subsequently arrested. The police and CPS could still decide to take no action but at least you will have exhausted all the possibilities.

If you read the first sentence, I mention he negotiated a deal with the insurance companies to reclaim their property, thus was acting with the owners consent (Although only in that the owner knew he was obtaining & returning the vehicle, not how).

In Dustys post, presumably the vehicles weren't covered against theft or an unsatisfactory offer is pending, which would make them still her property and thus why she's contemplating reclaiming them, or of course they'd be insurance company property and not her concern now
