Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can stop my newly-installed Internet Explorer 8 defaulting to its own choice of homepage: uk.msn.com, from my choice of Google overnight each night?

Needless to say, I am specifying Google through Internet Options each time and for the rest of the session this remains, but once I power off it returns to MSN.

:x

Install Superantispyware, which is a very useful free download in its own right. That will ask you during the install what you want your homepage to be, and will stop any changes happening without your permission.

In "TOOLS" (top right corner) ,select Internet options , then general - change home page and apply - if it changes again -looks like some program is getting at it - superantispyware( fill find and delete spyware ,as will spywaredoctor) or XOFTSPY ( xoft first move is to let you choose homepage etc, and then save the choice - it will look for spyware but not delete it- I use it for that then do the delete manually) )

Thank you both, I was doing what botach describes each night, to no avail.

I was reluctant to change my current spyware package on a can-of-worms basis, but is all sorted now.

To provide a little background info, when installing IE8, my firewall said "something is trying to change your homepage". When I blocked this, I was kicked out of the install process, so on the third attempt I allowed this, so my firewall was allowing msn to make itself the homepage each night somehow.

Last night I went to the homepage icon (little house on top right) and actually removed msn as my homepage through that, THEN set google as the new homepage. Don't ask me why but that seems to have worked, touch wood.

Haven't personally had any IE8 probs either on Win 7 or XP -though have heard of horrendous problems ,including unable to get on net .Only problem I get is that I sometimes have to sign on to sites such as SS ,but that's no problem as CCLEANER removes all net data anyway, and I run it now on a regular basis .Another program you might like to try is MALWAREBYTES -antimalware software - if it runs chances are you've got no problems , because from what I've heard all the "nasty " malware are designed to try and prevent progs like this running and showing the malware up .
