Hi, just looking for a bit of advice here (which i think i already know the answer to )...

I have had my licence for 14 months, i did my first long distance drive from Bristol to Newcastle yesterday.

Around nottingham (i think) there was a large stretch of what turned out to be average speed cameras.
I know i should have paid more attention, but it was busy, i never noticed the signs or cameras until id been driving in amoungst them for 5 mins, so i was doing 60/65mph
I had kept in the left lane, going the same speed as all the traffic front and behind me, on my right cars were belting past at 70/80.

As soon as i noticed i slowed down to 50mph, much to the disapprovement of those behind, who were fashng and beeping, i got the middle fingers shown by a few as they flew past me on the right after overtaking.

So, if i passed a few of these average speed cameras long stretch (like 5 miles), will i get 3 points for the whole violation or will i get 3 points for every violation, meaning i get 6 points and lose my licence?

and if i do get 2 tickets, is there anything i can do, and is there any way to delay the Ban for as long as possible as i need the car for a holiday in January 10th.

Given the flow of traffic (and the unusual amount of hostility) you described, there is a possibility that you didn't notice that the cameras weren't live (quite common) and that reduced limits weren't in effect.

What was the speed limit? Did you slow to 50 because that was what the posted limit was?
What road was this on? Perhaps someone can confirm the limits and status of the cameras.

Chances are that if you were going with the flow (and going slower than many) then you should be OK. A camera nabbing a large portion of passing drivers is unheard of.

I don't know about issues of multiple prosecutions.

Since you have to pass at least two cameras to be shown to have exceeded the limit, the court will take the view that it is a single offence if it occurred in a single stretch of roadworks.

I doubt very much whether you would get a ban before January 10th... as long as you mean Jan 10th 2010 and not 2011! The wheels of "justice" rarely turn that fast, and you get 28 days to decide whether you would accept a FPN.

If a FPN arrives in the post outside of 14 days within the date of the offence, perhaps delayed by the Xmas post, then get your postman to witness this fact.

The speed limit was 50 yes, as there was a large stretch of "roadworks" so the traffic was reduced to 2 lanes, this stretch was covered by cameras.

I honestly cant remember where it was, it was either 30 before or 30 min after trowel services in nottingham i cant remember which.

And yes, traffic everywhere was going the same speed as me, and in the right lane cars where whixxing past.

I suppose i will just need to wait and see what comes through the door in the next few weeks

If it makes you feel better: in-car speedos (not GPS speedos) usually overread by a bit, and fixed cameras will have a tolerance of at least 10%+2mph. An indicated travelling speed of 60 could be OK.
