Folks,

Amongst the new tax rises muted by the Tory government are VAT increases and toll motorways. Link below on the tolls:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/electio ... ories.html

Given that toll motorways are common on the continent, and the Tories will have a strong argument for raising taxes against the deficit, how likely is this to happen and how should we react?

Cooler.

We'll react like we always do.
Yawn, go to sleep, and wake-up when the bill arrives.
Anyway....with the proposed fixed-term parliament (4/5 years with only a vote of no confidence to unseat the gov....and the pm not allowed to pick the date) things look like getting boring.
Oh, and the amount of votes needed to get a no confidence motion is proposed to change to 55%...
So....307 con seats...and 344 other seats....means that the combined opposition cannot reach the magic percentage.
Or whatever.

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

But so many of the Tory right are unhappy with the coalition that they cannot be counted on to support their leader in a vote of confidence - especially if they are planning to leave the Commons anyway.

The original article only refers to tolls on new motorways, and as there won't be any of those in the foreseeable future I wouldn't worry.

VAT rise is a dead cert, though, I reckon.

I thought you said Tory trolls for a second there Cooler. I’m sure there’s a few of them which we could put on the motorway, and then remove the speed limit.

Why is it whenever I hear the words “we have no plans” it translates in my mind to “we have plans”?

I have no plans to disbelieve anything they say...

You will be branded a threat to society by going over a speed limit where it is safe to do so, and suffer the consequences of your actions in a way criminals do not, more so than someone who is a real threat to our society.

And something that could keep them in power is what Harriet ( spell checker says Chariot - possibly a more accurate word :D ) Harperson says " I won't be involved in the labour leadership contest " -so we can assume safely that at some stage she will be the Maggie of Nu Labia. :D :D

If she had a working brain she would keep her gob shut and fade away. She seems to be universally disliked by everyone I know....labour and others.
