I have received a speeding ticket for speeding from a mobile van. The vans only markings were bright yellow and orange, much like a motorway maintenance van. There were no warning signson the van it contained speed cameras nor any warning signs on the streach of road before it. In fact the warning sign that there were speed cameras was about 10 yards further down the road. Is this legal I though there had to be warning signs of speed cameras and vans had to be marked!

Signs are advised to Councils but not required.
Vans have been undergoing many paint alterations they claim to help with re-sell value !

The vans ought to sill carry a sign but some are now very small and not 'obvious', which of course increases paranoia. Sometimes signs are on the reverse of the open doors too. 'Scamvans' come in all colours these days across the Country.

Do ask for the full 'video camera session'. You have some time to consider and answer (28days) - ensure that you have received the notification within 14 days of the alleged offense, if you are the registered owner of the vehicle.

I am not a lawyer and cannot advise you. Check outpepipoo.com (forums) - they have lawyers on site that can help - see the NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution section too).

And from one example locally ,in different sizes - e.g Warks use a white fully (Police)liveried Fiat Panda with the rear door open and the only indication the Hi Viz waste coat on the operator ,and something that looks like a Police bike , trying to blend into the hedges from my experience .

I believe there should be a colocated sign (speed and camera) within one kilometre from the camera site. Also if you live in another County from where you got zapped then I would personally stick it out. I'd file the first NIP(in the bin) and see if they sent another by recorded delivery. If a second one came unrecorded I'd bin that also and it would be up to them to prove beyond doubt that I had received it, after all, they state on the NIP that ALL monies should be sent by RECORDED POST as, PROOF OF POSTING IS NOT PROOF OF RECIEPT. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. I advised a friend to ignore his wifes NIP which she received from South Yorks and she did so. She received a second NIP (not recorded) I again advised not to respond. Result was that she never paid or had points. They lived in another County and so the prosecuting force would have to contact Notts police who would then have had to send an officer to locate and issue the notice. How much time would this have taken Notts police? The NIP automation system had been broken and police forces do not have the manpower to chase up other forces requirements. I am no lawyer and do not instruct you to do the same but that would be my option if a NIP from another County was issued. OLLIE
