Britain’s first scooter proficiency course has been launched amid growing concerns over the safety of children choosing to “scoot” to school.
Thousands of pupils are expected to benefit from the training programme which will teach them how to avoid pedestrians and traffic.
The scheme is being established because of the increasing number of pupils opting to travelling to and from school on scooters.

Sales of the two-wheelers have shot up in the past couple of years and can be bought for as little as £20.
They are an easier alternative to cycling for younger pupils and now schools in London have decided that children should take training courses similar to ones for cyclists.
Pupils will learn about pavement etiquette and how to treat pedestrians with courtesy. They will also be taught road safety, such as when to cross the road.
The programme is taking place at dozens of schools across Kensington and Chelsea, including at St Thomas' Church of England primary school.

And for my next trick folks - ( Assuming that they rope Paul Daniels in as a road safety expert-why not - he knows about as much on that topic as their present ones) )

1) Roadcraft for cyclists .
2) - The green cross code .

Be interesting to get hold of their course literature ! :) At least they are learning young and hopefully 'well'.
Attitude, courtesy / care and overall awareness are good 'behaviours' to learn from the 'start'.

Sorry - my post did tend to be a bit sarcastic on school road safety teaching - good reason - I have recently picked up GD due to problems , to find that the teenagers have no road safety sense, and the teachers don't expect them to have any-it's not taught .Funnily enough , my daughter found time to drum it into her daughter ,between kicking out her partner for reasons best known to her , keeping several jobs and a roof over their head ,learning to drive and finding the money to keep car on the road .
