I saw this on the local news with some numpty from the council making wild and impossible claims.
Such as (from the link above).

make roads in Bradford a no-go area for crooks.
So I'll be fine to walk round the town with a carrier full of £10 notes? I think not.

“If a stolen vehicle comes into the city centre, we’ll know about it.
Not if it has plates from a legit vehicle. In fact the system is worse than a human officer because it can't tell the difference between makes/models/colours. If there is a report of (for instance) a stolen silver Merc then an officer can be on the lookout for a silver Merc and check the plates match. The computer just sees the plate and if it's not from the stolen car then ignores it.

A spokesman for its developers Genesis (UK) Ltd said they called it Big Fish because “the computer catches lots of small bits of information rather like a big fish catches lots of smaller fish”.
More like it catches a few small fish and runs away from the big ones.

Chief Supt Dodd added: “Denying criminals the use of the roads denies them access to the primary means of transport for drugs, robberies and burglaries. Law-abiding people should feel much safer.”
Which would be great if it actually did deny
ALL criminals the use of the road. It doesn't and can't. Now it is known about no self respecting criminal will have lgit plates on their car. The false plates market in Bradford will benefit greatly.
What bothers me is not so much that they have implemented such a system but that they are making greatly trumped up claims for it. And I really think they believe themselves.
Right, I'm off to find a more secure way to attach the plates to my car.
