Hope this is right place .

Camera review getting lots of room on both BBC & ITV Midlands news bulletin today .

The article is on line at http://www.itv.com/central-east/ on ITV ,but I couldn't get the online version on Midlands Today(BBC) ,which was inviting comments to their e mail site( AH the wonders of Win7 -need more plug ins says a window hidden in the background) .Both Warks and Staffs are now looking at costs .Don't know about Staffs ,but it was only last April/May that the limits were lowered( in Warks) in an exercise that cost an obscene amount for replacement of signs .

Looks like they'll all be bygone ,including the one in Nuneaton still bagged up( that's my favourite :D ) after it self destructed( or as in the local rag ,was vandalised ,with little publicity -so take your pick  ) ,and the one only a few weeks old in Rugby ( as on the BBC bit) ,put up as a result of accidents at a junction .Now if memory serves , this is a light controlled cross roads ,with a what was a :40: last time I was there ,possibly it's now :30: .
-LONG STRAIGHT up to the lights -IMHO more suited to some engineering solution( roundabout   ) ,or regular visits from an unmarked .

More on this here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-10957245
Bet Steve & mates are now renaming it something else than the Smile Camera Partnership ( and funny how they're all called Steve) .

Despite the apparent cuts, the warwickshire have started regulary operating a camera from a panda ( A fiat panda ) on Hinckley road in Nuneaton.
This is a 30 which was reduced from a 40 last year. No need for a 30 here and the majority of vehicles seem to light up the 30 sign as they pass.

These light up signs really are a joke. I have yet to see one that doesn't light up when you pass it on the limit or a mile or two below the limit. surely ,if you want people to take them seriously they should only trigger at a couple of MPH above the limit, NOT below it.

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

VAS (Vehicle Activated Signs) have shown to be valuable as it makes a driver / rider think ... and decide if they ought to take any action.
I agree that the psychology does need to be standardised. Worthy of their own thread if you want to take this line further ...

Interesting article that (=http://www.itv.com/central-east/speed-camera-review36668/here) for the Midlands and I see that they say the following plan to try and keep them going :
Derby
Leicestershire
Lincolnshire
Nottinghamshire
Shropshire

Those under review (seems with expectation of going one assumes perhaps) :
Derbyshire
Northamptonshire
Staffordshire
Warwickshire
West Midlands
Worcestershire

It gets everywhere -usually behind bus stops as on Arbury road, Nuneaton a short time ago - bonnet to shelter ,and with boot open ,it was hard to see -I saw it from the front and turned round to get a rear view -the pic below was using a mobile from about two hundred yards .

Image

Look to the right of the white van .Problem is ,that apart from lack of blue light ,this one is liveried as a police vehicle ,but operator only wears an apology for a yellow vest .
