Concrete mixer crashes onto train

The vehicle landed on coaches of a South West Trains service in Oxshott in Surrey just after 3pm on Friday. It is thought that 36 people were on board at the time when it was hit.

A Network Rail spokesman said: "At around 1530 at Oxshott in Surrey the 1505 Guildford to London Waterloo service operated by South West Trains was halted when a cement mixer lorry came off an overbridge.

"The vehicle landed on some of the train's coaches of an eight-coach unit. So far, there are no reports of fatalities though it is believed there are several people injured."

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "Officers are currently on scene, along with paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Surrey Fire service."

Around six ambulances and response vehicles were at the scene in Oxshott, a South East Coast Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

Just imagine the carnage if the concrete mixer had fallen thirty feet onto a bus!

They have been trying to figure out why a 26ton concrete lorry (ready mix) went through a brick wall !!!
The thought of eye witnesses is that it is thought that he clipped the bridge then over-steered in avoiding an oncoming car - hence the momentum, the non-braking and the weight / power to go through a brick wall. The driver's injuries are serious and no threat to his life.
The damage is at the rear and front of two carriages which must have helped reduce the injuries.

The images of the brick wall do not show that much brick ! Walls of brick compared to stone are weaker. This walls shows no 'support walls'.

Some experts are saying that they think that the lorry may break up - but I bet the 'mixer' doesn't ! It will start to set when not turning, and so probably solid by the time they get it lifted tomorrow - although still 'breakable' with the right equipment. Concrete takes 50 years to go completely totally hard !
