I have just acquired a new car - SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TSi Sport. I was looking forward to being able to play MP3 CDs, but having recorded one, the player just spits it out saying "disc fault". I have just recorded it using the "create data disc" function in Windows Media Player, so there should be nothing peculiar about it.

Any thoughts?

Here's how i burn MP3s using Media player 10
Open media player
go to library
Left pane then click 'all music' middle pane should show all music.
Right pane upper right click on 'Burn list'
Drag the music you want to the right pane
When finished bottom right pane 'Start burn' click little arrow Audio cd not data cd
Job done. Hope that helps

From memory ,you need to have audio files in the .cda format on a cd for a cd player to recognise them .( Going from a commercial cd and one I did for SWMBO) .

Can't r4member the program I used to convert ,but there should be something free on download.com or tucows.com .( marked as freeware ) .

Yes, I can burn audio CDs, but those only contain 80 minutes of music. I thought the idea of MP3 CDs was that you were able to listen to 11 hours of music at once.

Peter - not too sure of the CD player fitted - one I've got in mind is a SYMPHONY as fitted to Skoda 2004 models - which only accepted normal CD . It's possible that the player has been uprated , but for that info you need SEAT/VAG info . Best source of VAG info ( and they'll tell you what oil you need/and more on any VAG car -several "master techs"-that's a VAG grading post on there) I can recommend is BRISKODA (.net).The general site will help out ,and there's a "tech shed" forum with quite a few computer/audio blokes /gals .There's also an ICE ( in care entertainment forum ) ,and as the units are the same ( but with maker names on ) - plenty of knowledgeable folks on there as well .
Very friendly site - not in the least badge conscious - can recommence a look . ( OH- and there's plenty of room for spreading the SS message around - )

Media player 10 has a set bitrate of 128kbps for MP3s this limits playing time.
Nero or simillar would allow a smaller bitrate so allowing you more playing time.

Oddly, I tried it this morning with another disc that was only about half-full, and it played fine. Reading the handbook it says the CD player will only play discs with a maximum of 124 folders, so possibly I had exceeded that number with the first disc.

I also use Nero and have no problems using my 5 year old Ford unit to play mp3 CDs.

Maybe you can get around the 124 file thing by dropping say a hundred tracks intoeach of several files, then copying those files onto the disc, thus "fooling" your player into thinking the CD only has a few files.

But only seems to recognise some of the files :(

Nero seems a bit expensive if I'm not certain it'll work.

Did you finalise the disc ?

I can usually fit about 160 songs on one disc but have to prefix filename with 0001Song...0002Song etc to retain play order (I don't do random) Probably because my Sony Xplod player is so old though !!

A quick google.... Free burning Software

I appear to have solved this problem now by:

(a) ensuring that all files copied are actually .mp3s - some for some reason were .wmas, which isn't obvious if creating playlists in Windows Media Player

(b) putting all files into one directory and burning them directly to the CD using Windows Explorer rather than Media Player. That's a bit more laborious but (touch wood) it seems to work
