I got flashed a couple of weeks ago and received the letter last week, asking who was driving the car . Unfortunately, when I came to answer the letter I couldn't find it. Will I get a follow up letter or should I do something proactive to avoid prosecution for failing to provide details?

IIRC a second follow up letter is normally sent if no reply is received. However this is not a requirement. You may be open to a failure to declare charge for not replying.

You can try to be proactive but you will need to know the constabulary that sent the original letter and the day of the alleged offense. Your best bet is to go and ask on pepipoo.

Being nosy can you describe the circumstances that led to you receiving a letter of self incrimination

Bums!

I think the right and safest thing to do is to be proactive. You don't want to be tarred with the same brush as those who simply throw away NIPs.

Ring the HQ of the police force in the county in which the alleged offence occurred.

Overtaking a cyclist: he speeded up: put foot down to to pass before reaching bend: flash!

It was slightly downhill so he probably didn't do it deliberately. Should have anticipated it.

DCB,

I can only assume your driving was safe, and that the cyclist remained unperturbed.

What type of camera were you nabbed by?
Were you in familiar territory when it happened?
Was it a conscious decision to exceed the limit, or was it an accidental creep?

Just say so if you want me to split this thread.

Don't worry, I'm not going to rub it in.

I felt that it was, as usual, safer to pass the cyclist briskly than to risk having to squeeze him if an oncoming vehicle appeared.

Never saw it - just the flash. Too busy watching road and cyclists to look at cameras.

No. That is part of the trouble. I was approaching one of Stockport's many ambiguously signposted junctions so wondering which lane to use was taking a lot of my attention.

Neither really. I passed the cyclists at what my experience told me was the safest speed. It was certainly one of those occasions - which the Greensheds of this world deny exist - when I couldn't afford the distraction of looking at the speedo

Water off a duck's back :D

Which deadline?

you have 28 days to respond, assuming you are the RK with the driver details

Oh Dear! I never said that these situations didn't exist, you just took the wrong option.

Here is a link to pass information online to teh Central Ticket Office at GMP for it is that force that covers Stockport: http://www.gmp.police.uk/mainsite/feedback.htm&dept=Speeding/Parking+Fines

or you can write to them at:

Central Ticket Office
Greater Manchester Police
Adair Street
Manchester

Don't wait longer than 29 days as you will receive a summons for failing to comply with the notice and supply the drivers details. If you are the registered keeper or owner of the vehicle you may also be summonsed for speeding. You would be better off with a speed awareness course or 3 points and a £60.00 fine rather than 9 points, a large fine and costs.

Care to say which one it was? Not the one on the A6 by Debenhams, by any chance?

Yes, you would clearly have been safer creeping past the cyclist with a minimal speed differential...

Oh wait, or you could have not overtaken the cyclist at all, and had the entire road behind you being forced to travel at cycling speed, and trying to overtake you both with minimal speed differential!

Bring back the man with the red flag!

No, near Bredbury. I was travelling clockwise on the M60 East intending to come off at J27 (Portwood) for the A6 South. But I was seduced by the sign for Marple at J25 and turned off there. Unfortunately that was the last sign for Marple I saw.

I do believe that Stockport remains the worst signposted large town in Britain.
