What are scrappies paying for old cars these days?

Nowt, if you're lucky.

pick up from your place about £100 but from what I have heard recently their industry is struggling.
Perhaps breaking it yourself and selling the parts on ebay (and other websites / newspapers) is the way to go?
Alternatively what about Free-cycle in your area - or a Uni / college mechanics course voluntary vehicle ?

Best I have found is £50 if they come and collect it, and I have one to get rid of at the moment, so anyone with details of any better offers in the south please do let me know!

I have been offered £150 if I deliver it to them, which begs the question of whether I am allowed to tow a car without tax/mot/insurance on the public road?

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

I've always had a minimum of £100 on the last few that I've scrapped from home. Oct 2009 was the last time,I scrapped a car and scrap was high before xmas (end of october) unless it's dropped since. I've always rung a few out of the local paper.

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road,what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

The last one I scrapped was about four years ago when you couldn't give them away, my girlfriend's Volvo 323. I told them it had a quarter tank of petrol, which was true, for which he gave us £10 in total.


I would have thought the the type and condition of your car would matter dcb. What are you scrapping out of interest? Has the old Porsche Carrera finally given up the ghost?

Seriously, my '92 Golf GTI isn't looking too good. Lots of niggling little faults - broken door locks, speedo not working - which I haven't the energy or time to grapple with in the winter. And it will be difficult to justify having two cars in the household when I retire in March.
I will try advertising on the owner club site.

Ah ha! So you’re either old or rich.

Well don’t let the grass grow under your feet dcb. I can’t tell you how many people I have known peg it within a couple of years of retirement. I think it’s partly because they have nothing to get up for in the morning or preoccupy their day, but you don’t strike me as that sort so here’s hoping you enjoy it and get a letter from the future King.

Oh to be out of the rat race, but I've got a few years to go yet...

I have been working only two days a week for the last two years so I am getting the hang of filling my days. I am certainly not going to die of boredom. And as I have never had any management responsibility I won't pine away from lack of backsides to kick.

A man from the motor trade, who I met at a party has given me, gave me a £100 for it. Will be interesting to see what life without my own car - first experience of it for thirty years - will be like. Judy's little Toyota has been promoted to "family car" and I suspect that I will be using it more than she does. Though I will probably have to hire something bigger when I go on the lad's reunion week in May.
