This isn't the first time that the West Midlands Police has employed the services of specialist vehicles. Last year it borrowed an HGV to see into the cabs of lorries and catch careless drivers using their mobile phones at the wheel.

I am sure there are many volunteers to drive the police car for this two weeks!! :) They'd probably even work for free or not ask for overtime ! ;)

Seriously though I am sure that they will try to ensure that the most experienced traffic officers will be assigned to this car. I see they only have it for a short time, and I guess they hope to chase the fastest of speeders ?
So why do they need this car? Is it s a test for alternatives to a helicopter ?
Might we assume from this that they can therefore safely handle a car going at high speed safely on the motorway? In chase scenarios, they don't usually approve of very high speed chases as those they are chasing may react unexpectedly or make a small error that may result in a catastrophic result.
So what will they actually achieve from this ? A PR exercise ?
Looking for respect from those that own powerful cars and hope it acts as a deterrent ?
Do they loose to those that 'run' from the police, on the M6 Toll road ?
How many high performance cars do the police fail to catch - does this exercise imply that there maybe some or perhaps even many ?

Who is going to be the first to fill it with diesel ?
With emissions of 205gm/km it is a good job they don't have to pay tax on it.
Insurance group 20 (out of 20).....so I'm glad I do not have to insure it (given the truly appalling accident rate of police vehicles I'm sure they have no no-claims bonus)
"sacrificial" ally front chassis and steel rear attached to an extruded ally "tub means it will be easy, but costly, to repair after those "shove the scrotes off the road" chases end !
But then the stressed composite panels won't last long after it is parked in a town centre and gets a good keying.

Yeah, I'd like to see them forming a "box" round a stolen car with four of those and bringing it to a halt! :lol:

As Malcolm says, a good PR stunt by Lotus but I really can't see it being of any practical use. I sure as hell wouldn't want to start playing "bumper cars" with a stolen 5-Series or Range Rover Sport in it!

Anyway, as speed kills (and going faster doesn't get you there any quicker) I'm surprised they even need it! :wink:

And here, of course, is the problem. THEY know it's not a problem and so does the vast majority of other motorists. They can "talk the talk", but, human nature being what it is, "walking the walk" seems a bit more tricky for them!

O goody .... thanks PC Nairn, so it'll still be just fine if I continue to bumble along in the middle lane with a humungus tailback behind me making a 3 lane motorway into a dual carriageway ..... and drive 3 feet behind the car in front waving my fist in frustration at the twot in front that will not get out of my way right now .... with impunity then..... seeing as you are (as usual) concentrating on speeding cos as everybody knows that's the one and only cause of all colisions ever and is absolutely the most dangerous thing anybody can ever do ever ever cos its the one and only cause of everything bad that ever happens ..... (this browser does not have javascript so I can't put a smiley in here but I would if I could .... sarcastic? moi? surely not!!)

Anyway why does PC Nairn think that a "very quick car" will will be a better at detering anyone from "thinking of speeding"??? he will have some evidence to back this up one would presume??

Oh and I hope PC Nairn that you never ever ever give your fancy new toy a bit of stick for no good reason just for a laugh, you wouldn't do that now would you PC Nairn??

You only need two tools - WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape. :0)
