The tax disc fell off my bike and I have sent off the form and the cheque, so I will probably get stopped now before the new one comes... if I do, do I still get fined?

I know the offence is for not displaying one but I think you would have to be quite unlucky to get done. I don’t get stopped from one year to the next and if a traf pol is following you and an ANPR check done, as you know it won’t come up as untaxed. So unless you're drawing attention to yourself, (Zooom... :D ), I think you'll be fine myself. :)

My feeling is the answers that will come back are going to be yes, if you do happen to get stopped a PC jobsworth would do you.

It may arrive quicker if you had done it online Adam. Just a thought. Image

In 21 years, I have been pulled up once in the US for an overtake in the S10, I was speeding, but one needed to build up such a head of steam in that POS I should have received some kind of award. He let me go 8-) and I got stopped on a tractor at 4am

Tax disc of not, I'm going to norf this weekend to see my brother and the rest of me family. there will be motorcycling :D as long as I behave there should be no reason to stop me as everything is legal and above board

As far as I know you can only be prosecuted for 'failing to display' than no tax and as BT says the ANPR will know that you are all paid up to date.
How did you change your bike into a tractor ? Or do you mean the bike end up ontop of the tractor ??

Its exactly the same as small number plates and a dark visor. Upset a copper and they will use whatever they find. In my case overtaking a copper ended up with them following me 3 miles and nicking me in my drive for a small plate. Ho hum, support a reduction in their pensions every place you get the chance I say........

Would think you'd have to be seriously unlucky to get done for not displaying as it is actually taxed and it can be checked .... There are one or two BIB with a seriously serious prejudice against motorcycles, if you are unlucky enough to get pulled by one ... you'll get done for any minor infringement ..... but you gotta get real unlucky to meet one.

Isn't it common amongst bikers to display a photocopy rather than the original disc?

I think some probably do, but not sure if it'd help any. I never did and never had one stolen, oh I've had the whole s**ding bike stolen! but never a tax disc. I don't use any fancy disc holders, just real cheapo easy access ones.

Think the penalty for displaying a tax disc on the wrong vehicle is kinda steep, think its a criminal offence rather than a traffic offence? (fraud?) and you could quite possibly end up with a criminal record if caught and convicted?

I've never come across anyone who's done that. Legally, it has to be the original I believe. (I know you weren't saying otherwise Peter).

I use a fancy one with six screws and bolted to my frame. So unless someone comes armed with an 8mm spanner and small Allen key, (plus the five minutes it takes to take apart), they won't bother stealing it.
