Just looking for someone to shed some light please - I was driving towards a speed camera van and noticed I was speeding on approach. On driving by the van, I saw that both the vans rear windows were smoked out glass with camera logos on them. There was no camera sticking out either window. I was just wondering if anyone knew if the van wasn't set up yet, or could they have detected my speed even though the windows were shut? Hoping that because there was no camera sticking out one of the windows, that the van was there as a deterrent only and not actually catching people speeding!

It seems like it was not enforcing when you passed from the description, but you will know in the next 14 days.. IF you are the registered keeper.
If it is a company vehicle or leased, then you would have to sweat a little longer.

Try and make sure that you see the symbols a little sooner, and don't draw attention to yourself in future.
I'd like to say keep your eyes on the road, and watch out for hazards developing in front of you - but that is no longer the most economic approach these days!
Your (probable) near miss will have you watching for cameras and your speedo from now on, instead of the things you really should be looking at.
