I've not seen the new
Government e-petitions website mentioned on here so far.
Currently third on the list with 64,000 signatures is
Cheaper petrol and dieselIf a petition gains 100,000 signatures it supposedly triggers a debate in Parliament.
Other transport-related ones that may be of interest include:
Remove all speed camerasIncrease the speed limit on UK motorwaysRemoval of Dartford Crossing tollsEliminate speed bumpsBanning cycles from pavements and licensing cyclistsAcquitted defendants' legal costsOf course we know that this exercise is to a large extent just a way of giving the impression of listening to the public while continuing to ignore them. However, it's a bit of fun and it could potentially have an impact on setting the agenda - the petition about Hillsborough which is currently Number 2 certainly seems to have done so, and the one on road charging under the old system certainly did.
Unlike the old system, you can't view a list of who has signed a petition, and you also have to get through a difficult captcha before your signature is accepted.
