Terrible news tonight (although the BBC TV news doesn't seem to have woken up yet). Hope everyone affected by these events is at least OK. Even more rain to come we hear, Am listening to radio 5 live at the moment, the only sort of light relief from the bad news is the attempts by southern BBC presenters to pronounce: Mytholmroyd! So far we've had: Myth - Umbroyd by Stephen Nolan, and My - Thumb - Royd by Dotun Adebayo!

Hope everyone on speedsafe in the area affected is safe.....

Draco

I see what you mean. Nice to see people all pulling together.

It's all made me think twice about moving tbh. Where I am is about 600 ft above sea level, with no rivers to burst their banks nearby. Maybe living on a barge on a canal is an option..

I'm not a skeptic when it comes to global warming, I listen to all viewpoints. But one thing is for sure, the weather has certainly changed in my lifetime for one reason or another..

Yes lets hope that not too many have lost too much and that life will return to 'normal' very soon.

Strange though ,Tone- I watch a program called Highland Emergencies, and see many reports of high winds/foul weather in the Highlands. Times where the Emergency services are called out. Things like Lifeboat. I remember times when my dad was called out a lot in foul weather. Weather seems not to have changed much up there in my lifetime.

Hmm.. I'm not sure what to think dude. I don't remember several places ever having to make flood banks like they've had in a lovely place I've visited since forever called Bewdley.

I think it happened several times in the naughties; to the point no one could get house insurance again and people literally couldn't give their homes away.

But then, as I mentioned once, in Stratford on Avon it had floods going way back, the worst being in 1906ish from memory.

Weird or what.. :?

I don't think it is weird. Communication is way better than it was and images 'make TV' so having access to better quality images encourages the Broadcasters to show the images and with all the personal stories linked to it - it all adds up to 'great TV'.

There might be a chance that it is a 'swing' in the weather like El Nino or some such ... or just a particularly wet month and freak weather - that 'random chance'!
Selecting your chosen home is down to you. I have always considered location. I see many places even in the Highlands now start to build on known flood plains - and I wonder why the Town planners allow that as it is an 'accident waiting to happen'.
London is a massive flood plain !
We tend to forget to look at the geology of an area when deciding on a property - not saying that some don't of course !
I have great sympathy with those that now find themselves in a 'flood risk area location, with 'no easy way out' !

Mentioning the floods. I caught a glimse of an episode of Eddie Stobart ,recently where the last floods were shown ,and the removal of the Army replacement bridge.
