Residents are campaigning for speed cameras and road humps on an alleged accident blackspot in Stockport:

However,
Quote:
Councillor Iain Roberts said: "Police haven't recorded excessive speed as a factor in any previously reported collisions at the junction with Bengal Street over the last five years.

"Residents living past Chatham Street have expressed concern about the speed of vehicles.”

He said speed humps 'aren't practical' on such a busy road, but alterations have been made to the road layout.

I kinow this road well, and would say in that location speeds above 30 mph are virtually unknown. It's also a busy main road, so humps would be totally inappropriate.

The problem arises from drivers making uncontrolled right turns on a busy road. I would say in both directions a right turn ban would not be unreasonable - traffic emerging from the station can easily use the roundabout by the Armoury pub 100 yards up the road.

The specific location is here.

It's amazing how paranoid some folk can get (or is it nimbyism?).Or is it a problem whipped into a crisis by the speed freaks to have another profit zone created.
Some time ago I posted one local story about alleged speeding on one road. The photos in the paper all showed this stretch of road with no parked vehicles, but every time i've been down it, one side is littered with vehicles parked on the road ( with off road parking lying empty), making it virtually impossible for vehicles to attain the limit (30) .

They really need to get the engineers to look at the road layout and design. Perhaps sight lines are leaving people surprised when pedestrians 'appear' ?
It does look like a decent road but clearly attention is elsewhere perhaps if accidents are common ? It does make me wonder if the hill is a contributory factor ?
A psychology issue than a physical one perhaps?
