Where i live children (including my own and grandchildren) play with balls and toys etc. on the street, it is normally a safe and quiet street but the occasional nutter can see a straight road and thinks that speeds in excess of 50mph are quite safe to travel without damaging their precious car (owned by the loan company, who approved extra for super underbody lights, and a cat3 alarm) But my concern is that on the Motorways and A roads they will flash you BECAUSE THATS WHERE THE MONEY IS there is little money to be earned around here with speed cameras. ITS a FARCE its a money making tool, from the motorist, if i was a mugger they should make it law that i must wear my address or phone number on my back, so they could flash me for walking to the pub if a person gets mugged that night they can then send me an automatic fine.

First off, welcome Billy.

In your first post you have hit the nail on the head as to why the cameras don't work. Where it's safe to speed they put up cameras, where it's dangerous to speed, so most motorists don't, there's no point in putting up cameras because they won't catch enough people to make the camera placement cost effective  It's a fundamental flaw, and the more people who refuse to be taken in by it, the better.

Don't forget that, quite often, these dangerous drivers are also unlicenced, uninsured and driving unregistered vehicles, so they are immune to cameras anyway.

Hope you enjoy your time on the forum.

does anyone know if that is the real reason why the met are only getting a 40% conviction rate with their fines. I know the congestion charge suffers from unregisterred and cloned vehicles. I heard a rumour that it was as high as 30%.

Well I live in Yorkshire and know at least 3 people who keep getting congestion charge fines through despite never travelling further south than Sheffield.

In the good old days the Police would set a speed trap if there is concern over traffic speeds. Does not happen these days. Its all about cost recovery. No resources available for real policing.

Additionally, in the old days the Police would set a speed trap but also pull someone over if they were driving badly below the limit. Something that Cameras cannot do.
