Over on what's left of the CSCP site, they've just released full KSI/PIC figures for Jan/Feb 2005.

Comparing fatals, they're down from 7 to 4. But, KSI totals are up a massive 49% on last year!!

Jan/Feb 2004 - KSI's 45, 2005 - 67. Feb especially bad with 42 KSI's.

2003 Jan/Feb (prior to CSCP commencing in business) - total was 74 KSI's (inc 7 fatals). So only a reduction of 7 - nothing at all in real terms allowing for 2 years' worth of vehicle improvements, road improvements etc.

Just waiting for JJ to appear, proclaiming deaths are down, now their beloved KSI measure has turned spectacularly against them....

Dont know how March is going for KSI's, but can recall 4 fatals so far, with of course a very high risk weekend still to come.

...and they've double the number of vans now compared to when they started!

Oh well, if the medicine isn't working - just take more of the same!

Still, I expect they're managing to eke out a meagre living on it!

I would think the rise in fatalities in 2004 was the main reason for closing the forums.

WRONG! They should have closed the partnership.

Not so much the fatalities as the constant pressure to explain them!!

Cue JJ's standard response.......

Imagine the effect on new visitors to the forums - every 4th post says: "fatalities are up in both years the CSCP have been operating". That wouldn't have been good for business would it? Hence they closed the forums.

Guess there was some truth in the explanation given by Kevin that their forum had become 'repetitive' then!

Perhaps you should consider renaming this forum to the full title of the Cumbria operation rather than just the acronym - it might bring a few more people here thanks to 'google' hits?!

They are not the only ones. Check out....
http://www.leics.police.uk/safety_road.asp

I have written to the Council for an explanation. Got the standard reply quoting that they are still on target on KSI figures. The correspondence is on-going...!

In Leicester fatalities went up 14% in 2004 from 2003.

Anyone know the results of this meeting http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/news/2005/march/3_15_2005-43850-PM.asp?

I hope they get to the bottom of it, and find the truth!

Send an FoI request to them for the minutes of the meeting.

EDIT - Forget that, I'll do it now. :)

Councillor Colin Nineham, Chair of Cumbria County Council's Environmental Quality and Safety Scrutiny Panel, said:

"All partners in the Cumbria Road Safety Partnership work hard to try and reduce accidents on the County's roads. A lot has already been achieved and we have an excellent foundation to build on. The aim of the Select Committee on Road Safety is to assess our progress and to ensure that we take the best route forward to try and make Cumbria's roads as safe as possible."

A lot has already been achieved......
Is that the 1.6 million pounds, or the extra fatalities on Cumbria's roads?
...and we have an excellent foundation to build on. That must be the previously declining accident statistics!

WAKE UP COLIN, the boat left without you!

Well, their 20 days to respond ran out yesterday so my complaint has just gone off to them. Hopefully the minutes will be on their way shortly...

There can be no excuse, they are in breach of the Act, end of story. The last time I sent a complaint off I got a very apologetic response in a couple of days, so lets see what happens between now and 10 days time (the deadline I've given them to respond before I go to the Information Commissioner).

Since yesterday afternoon you mean? Nope, not yet, as soon as I get the minutes, I'll post them here, don't worry. They've not even responded to say they've received my complaint yet (though in my experience, they don't, they just begrudgingly chuck you the info they should have sent over the first time you asked for it).

EDIT - Just as I posted that, this mail dropped into my inbox:

Quote:
Dear Mr Prescott

I apologise for the delay in responding to your request.

The information you requested has been sent by post.

Yours sincerely

Not entirely sure why it has been sent by post when they could have just copy and pasted into a mail, but at least something is on the way.

I've asked if I can have an electronic copy, and for them to publish the minutes on the webpage, since the FoI Act considers that good practice. We'll wait and see...

Yeah, I've got a massive wedge of stuff here to go through, but no scanner. TBH, there's very little on road safety, and I was amused to see not one of the CSCP guys involved in any of the meetings I now have minutes for!

If anyone wants the dubious honour of scanning these in, I can provide ample hosting to allow other to download. I'll obviously pay any postage.

How many pages Carl? I'm pressed for time, but I went looking in the first place, so I might call in some favours, and share the load!
You can email or PM me.
Anything in it which is revealing?
