I've read on this site - and elsewhere where speedophiles gather to serenade each other with mind-numbing bollocks - that motorway speed limits are too low 'cos they (and not impatient/stupid drivers) cause bunching and dangerous inattention. 90mph is often quoted as a minimum necessary to keep the adrenalin pumping and a driver sufficiently stimulated/aroused to maintain the necessary attentiveness.
So is it safe to assume that there were heavy losses among the M4 protesters trundling along, as they were, at dangerously slow speeds?

Damn! I think I've just split my sides.

There was an accident on the M4 during the protest. A Subaru in the 3rd lane, heading eastbound just before a bridge, braked suddenly and was hit from behind.

Now, do you think that's funny?

Strewth! You're all a tad touchy.
So this rear-ended Subaru; part of the protest was it? I ask because I thought the laughably few vehicles taking part were pootling along in the inside/'slow' lane. I'll ask again, any protesters totalled?
Seems all you've proved is that where drivers care to keep within speed limits they can! There's a surprise. Shame so many of you don't ordinarily care to obey the law.

That's a droll aircraft carrier pic., though I think you flatter yourselves. Rather too many 'safespeeders' on deck to be truly representative..

Oh, be still my quivering belly!

A figure of 180 vehicles has been quoted for the number taking part. This is a statistically insignificant number for the purpose of assessing accident rates, and nothing can be judged about the safety of the speed being driven at from such a limited sample.

The argument about low speed promoting inattentiveness doesn't really apply in this sort of situation anyway, where the low speed is only being maintained for a short amount of time, and there is a greater hazard level from the artificially boosted local volumes of traffic.

Well I was on the protest and riding at the front and it was a hell of a dangerous ride IMHO. Cars, vans and lorry's were overtaking and cutting so close I could feel them brushing the front wheel (metaphor by the way), the two second rule was only being observed by the protesters and other traffic saw these "gaps" as an invitation to fill them. Cars joining the motorway from the slip roads really had no idea how to manage it, and despite the fact that the protest ran for only two hours there was indeed a speed related accident, caused by the low speed and the tailgaiting that ensued.

I was riding about 2 to 3 seconds behind the bike in front. I had several cars overtake on the inside using the gaps to weave through the traffic. I was boxed in by a coach on my right side for about 5 miles. Not good riding along side his wheels... :x

OK, mr wise-guy troll, so you think there should be more speed cameras then?
So why don't you do something about it?
The organisers of this protest are just ordinary people who decided to do something, so they organised this protest in two weeks.
There's absolutely nothing to stop you from doing the same. If you want more cameras, start a protest. Do what we did. Stand up and be counted.
Let's see just how much support you get.

Cheers
Peter

Nice variable speed with good distance prevents bunching. However - ripple effects are caused by sudden braking.

Scam usually present of they imagine any van on a bridge is a scam. Does not matter what speed - they panic shave speed down to 60 mph...

Only crunch was duies to non protest numpty and proably poor mirror work... This traffic was flowing at 56 mph in general - so if shunt occurred - was not then speed related. One or both were not paying attention and the protesters were L1/L2 by all accounts.

Drive at this speed on very odd occasions in UK - usually on track or just once or may be twice

But JJs - I behaves meself around 'ere!  unless my wife has kittens and that's different!

Faster even in Germany when I drive through on way to my in-laws who alwasy ask me about car, performance, speed, fuel consumption and which brand oil I use...

These were all expert drivers! Note the numpty (your pal who may need some cream for that bottom... after fidgeting with it so much) drove with fog lights ablazin' and then collided under the bridge - which explains the non-return of course!

Terribly sorry old chap; don't understand the banter. Might someone provide English subtitles of mad's post, please?
Actually, don't bother.
So, where are you all going to be protesting next, by demonstrating how easy it is to stick within speed limits when you care to?

Hoots.
