I was once told "Videos are great - when the kids wake you up at 6.00 am, you just put a video on, and it keeps them quiet until 8.00!"
The parent concerned was horrified however, when I asked "Why dont you just tranquilise them instead?".

What happened to getting up and actually interacting with your kids instead of hypnotising them with TV?

Mine dont like the taste of wine or beer at present (12 and 8) so it will be interesting to see at what point peer pressure leads them to adopt a taste for it!

Likewise - it's the only fair way. Brings the hidden problems into the open and screws the dark side dealers in one fell swoop.

Question is, are they addicted to drugs (including booze), or are they addicted to being hardened and violent?

If the latter is the case, then I think that's a more pressing issue, to be honest. One can drink and take drugs without harming others, but it's rare that one can be violent without doing likewise.

Though I'm putting a stake in the ground (and admitting to a past) when
I say that of the dealers I've met in my life, about 1 in 20 has been chaotic or violent. The rest have been as lovely as you like - and *none* of the majority of them have deliberately set out to hook someone. That occurence is either so rare I never encountered it, or a US media fabrication to help bolster the failed "War On Drugs".

It's not the drugs that appeal so much as the things that caused wonder when you were little (such as that it was possible for objects to fly) are utterly commonplace and unexciting now. We have, as you say, kids plonked in front of the TV from birth, with the idiot box acting as a surrogate babysitter - filling their heads with what is 'cool' and what is not, which is more often than not just some vendor trying to sell a product. These are the real 'pushers'. Keeping up with the world they portray causes anxiety and misery for those who feel they can't keep up. Getting mashed on whatever's to hand is an easy way out of the worry.

They will still sell to make a profit. I will still have burglaries and so on to fund habit.

Most are worse under the influence of drink and/or drugs. You would be amazed how "normal" (if that's the right word) they are after the night in the cells.

Depends on what and how much.

You are lucky - We meet all the 'orrid ones! Must be our dulcet tones murmuring "Yer Nicked" and "Shad AP!"

There were airplanes when I were a lad. I used to make those "Airfix" models and display them - dog fights across my bedroom ceiling! Man stepped on the moon when I was about 14-15. But space ships existed - I used to watch "Lost in Space!" (I quite liked the villain in that - I always wanted him to get the better of that awful little kid!

Oh - the excitement !

I hate commercial TV and those adverts. I have one word for my kids when they ask for this designer rubbish [b NO [/b].

Works every time. Funny that!

Mind you - they are a bit strange - they like taking cars apart and playing chess and Cluedo!.

They are also popular at school as they are - er - cheeky!

My favourite comedy of all tme was "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister"

Lot ot truth within the comic banter. The "Sir Humphreys" rule to large extent still.

CC's do have a political agenda to follow - we have the odd ones like my guv and Della in North Yorks - and I applaud them - takes guts to stand up and insist on actually POLICING and putting nabbing real criminals first - and protecting the public.
