In the last decade we have seen highly inaccurate messages given to the whole nation about the nature of road risks.

Safe Speed believes that inaccurate messages lead to false safety priorities with the dangerous consequence that road users are now paying disproportionate attention to low priority risks.

Anything about the alignment of messages to road users with real road risks would be on topic in this thread, including:

* what the dangers of false or misleading messages might be
* what false messages may have been given, both deliberately and accidentally
* what true messages about risks are the most important
* how we identify true messages with adequate certainty
* any exceptions to the rule - true messages that shouldn't be given, or false messages that should
* and so on

Matrix signs and the operation of them needs to be sorted out.
I'm sick of seeing matrix signs sayins things like "accident after next junction", you get to the junction after that next junction and have seen nothing untoward.
You can only cry wolf so many times, and they're up to that point now, lets have them telling the truth, and switching them off as soon as possible afterwards, perhaps then drivers will pay more attention to them.

This is so true!

You also get the signs warning you of "FOG" when it is as clear as a bell!

Even had one advising me that L1 was closed. Never actually passed any cones, workmen, tempo mandatory speed limit sign or anything.

Advisory speeds of 40mph - which recur for about 5 miles - with NO hazard. Then you get "End" sign

Hardly a surprise that very few that take much notice of these.

"Tired- take a break" messages or the ones reminding people not to use the mobile phone etc, etc. Will agree - these are useful for the numpty brigade out there!

I would like to see on the matrix signs things like, switch on headlights in rain, and, switch rear fogs off in rain.
I nearly took out a silver coloured car on a motorway in heavy rain, I could see the car behind it with its lights on, but not the silver car with no lights on.
Obviously he was trying to save electricity, and as he could see where he was going, didn't need his lights on.
