Can we really carry on putting Speed limits, Speed Cameras,calming measures etc,etc on our roads? Will there be a time when they will lose their effectiveness? :?:

I remember back in my white van driving days the first lot of traffic calming being installed on my patch. This consisted of simply building out the kerb at half a dozen spots. It actually worked, traffic slowed down, for about a week. So they beefed up the obstructions, putting chicanes in, then narrower chicanes when the locals found they could scrape two cars through together (or a car and a van). Now you need to be an olympic athelete to get along that same road.
