On Wednesday, there was another fatal accident on the A36 at Wellow. This is a road with a bad record and after the last fatalities about 2 years ago, a lot of changes (I hesitate to say improvements) were made to the road with 2 Truvelo cameras installed, road narrowing, changed marking and extension of 40mph limits. The accident occurred exactly between the cameras.

Unfortunately, the cause of the accidents here is not speed but the layout of the road, the junctions and the fact that the road goes up and down dips causing blind brows etc. This recent accident involved an elderly couple pulling out in front of a container lorry.

The money was spent on the wrong "solutions" here. The dangerous junctions should have been revised to improve sight lines (or traffic lights installed) and some road engineering done to reduce the dips. Also some "extremely dangerous junction" signs would have been useful.

I can't help but think that the "let's put in a camera, it will solve everything" mindset has been proved to be inadequate here.

I'm sure that they will just interpret it as there not being enough cameras - they obviously need another one in the middle or perhaps SPECs.
