That would make an interesting S172 case!

Reminds me of a colleague. His mum died suddenly aged 92. In the day of her funeral he received an NIP (second in less than 2 months and he thinks the shock of receiving the first one after 70 years o clean dirivng killed her) .

He showed the death certiificate but they refused to believe it. Lots of letters passed to and fro. Think it got sorted out eventually - as it never got to court so far as I know - happened three years ago.

This is something that really does concern me - speed enforcement causes stress, both when people are prosecuted / given a fixed penalty, and the stress of trying to comply with limits / look out for cameras. I've never heard of anyone trying to quantify the increased levels of heart disease and strokes I would expect to arise from this.

The full story featured on Beacon radio a couple of days back and its not quite as clear-cut it seems here. These stories grab the headlines and make the partnership sound like a bunch of callous bastards, but the simple fact is the woman's Rover car was still registered in her name several months after it had been sold by her family, so as registered keeper thats where the NIP was sent.
I don't suppose there's any requirement for the SCP to check the deaths register before issuing NIPs.

This situation reminds me of a 'factoid' I heard on 'They Think Its All Over', apparently 1700 registered season ticket holders at Manchester United are in fact dead! Their families have failed to notify the club because it would mean surrendering the ticket which, obviously, a member of the deceased's family is now using in his/her name.
Just goes to show this situation works both ways.

Are we about to see a rise in the number of elderly relatives assuming the registered keeper role?
