Driving southbound today, I noticed that there was a SPECS camera just outside where the roadworks become national speed limit (ie past the 40 mph limit)

Is this a recurrence of the thames street, or was that one not active, as there was another one about a mile further on down the road...

If the former, then if they are using ACPO thresholds they are going to be doing a lot of refunding :D

Went by on Saturday.... Yep, its past the 40 limit sign. I went through the j21 camera (one rear facing just for bikers) then the next one southbound is past the NSL sign.

Nothing to say it was not active.

I will let you know if the one in the NSL zone was working within the next 14 days....

I thought SPECS would only work with vehicles coming towards it?

I suppose it depends which way they are pointing.

Anyway they are facing BOTH directions on that site

Wouldn't one be for the opposite lane? They have this setup on the M62...

I pass through these roadwords every day, and the configuration of the cones changes on a more or less daily basis.

Sometimes ther eis a contraflow setup.and I beleive this is the reason for the cameras pointing the wrong way.

Even worse though, heading northbound at times HGVs have been restricted to (the coned off) L1, which was also used for traffic leaving the motorway at J21. Since this off slip sometimes has traffic tailing back into this lane (it leads to a very busy roundabout where it is often diffiticult to pull out becuse of the stream of fast moving traffic heading for the M69), this means that HGVs with no intention of leaving the M1 here get stuck in the queue for the junction. A brilliant piece of design don't you think?

There are 2 or 3 cameras on the one post. One is facing forward. There is no way from the angle it is pointed that it would see the opposite carriageway

Just to let you know, I noticed a SPECS mounting post (similar to the ones in Nottingham) on the M1, just as you come off the M69, at Leicester, heading north.
