i was driving up a road on the left hand side, with a speed camera facing me on the right hand side of the road, (there is a left hand side speed camera about a mile along the road) I thought the cameras only caught cars from behind as such on the same side as the road as the speed camera? ? ? I appeared to be the only car travelling through the camera at the time and it flashed twice as i drove past, i was doing about 36 in a 30, so im guessing it doesnt look good?!

If this is a Gatso type camera it can only catch you from behind.

Was it a bright white flash or a dull reddish one?

When there is no film in a camera the trigger threshold is sometimes lowered and the camera set to flash vehicles travelling in both directions - which may cause alarm, but won't lead to a ticket.

Then chances are it was a Gatso and you can breathe easy - not type approved for forward facing operation.

You have got 14 days to find out (if you are the registered keeper) any longer and you are off the hook

If you do get busted keep all the paperwork (including the envelope) and go onto Pepipoo web site to see where you stand.

If it's a gatso don't worry, I used to make it a point to trigger them when travelling in the opposite direction to waste film...

first look at www.speedcam.co.uk and identify camera.
If it's Gatso as we all suspect it shold not be flashing in your face.Phone up local police and make a formal complaint .they'll probably put you through to local partnership.State that this camera is faulty and is operating outside of it's type approval and you will oppose any NIP and provide the press with details. - That should get a reply of yes sir ,sorry sir photo will be destroyed sir - lest the the rest of their photos of cars going awayfrom camera get challenged and thrown out.Worked for me

This is where they send you a form to fill in to say who was driving the car. Igoes to the registered keeper first. Then they have 28 days to reply. If they were not driving they have to say who was, then they get sent one, and so on and so on.

If you get one don't rush to send it back. Check out Pepipoo web site first.

Just don't over run the 28 day deadline...

When I got a NIP from North Wales I forgot to return it. Well actually I was so p****d off at being done for 35 in a 30 by a camera I hadn't even seen (on a deserted road) that I just filed it [1] away in disgust. Two days after the deadline I remembered, and stuck it in the post. The next day I got a letter warning me that if I didn't return it "within 14 days" I would be taken to court.

[1] Well them actually. Clearly as I lived near Stockport I needed a Welsh version as well as the English one. Now I can frame the Welsh one as a souvenir.

Given that this is Brunstrom's lot, there must be some legal requirement for them to send you a reminder. If there wasn't, I can't see that lot wasting an opportunity to rake in yet more cash!

Oh and more "brownie points" for the officer concerned presumably. (See the interview in the Sunday Times News Review section):

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/ ... 92,00.html

Will Jasper Gerard now be interviewed about "police hate"?

Brian

Ah, but if it goes to court the scumrashits don't get the money, it goes to the gubmint, so it's obviously very much in their best interests to try and get you to accept the conditional offer.
