Victims' faces on speed cameras
New speed cameras featuring pictures of three people killed in crashes are being installed at an accident blackspot in north London.

(read page for full article)

Interesting quote from one mother:
"I believe if these cameras had been in Bounds Green Road before my son Lee and the others died, they would all still be alive today."

....but reading another article on the 'net you get the real story about the other driver who was at fault:

...the Omega was travelling at 60mph in the 30mph zone...

...Pathologist Dr Vesna Djurovic said a toxicology report showed Mr Dogan had 90mg of alcohol in his blood when the legal driving limit is 80mg....

...Mr Dogan's brother, Cihan Dogan of Latymer Road, Edmonton, told the court the Omega belonged to their father and Cumaali, a provisional license holder, did not have permission to drive it...

just saw this on London Today.

you couldn't make out the faces or anything, even from the camera 2 foot in front of it, and certainly not from a car on the road, you'll just see a black bit of paper-very effective that is!

bloke from roadpiss said about 4ksi and how that was horrible and people had to die to put something that would stop them blah blah blah. He didn't point out that even if the one third lie was true then 4ksi is so that they can say that someone has died due to excessive speed here, and therefore we need a camera to stop a repeat. thankfully having a go at the 4ksi was all he did, and their was nothing to say that speed cameras were a good idea, he just assumed that everyone thinks that  .

in the report the camera triggered a couple of times and the reporter mentioned that, the road was lightly trafficked and it's straight and 35 could easily be safe, and what's more no one died due to people speeding :o

the report started with the reporter walking towards the speed camera, but when she reached the camera she stopped and went sideways to talk to the roadpiss guy. could this be as so to not show an obstructing sign?

all in all this scheme isn't that good, unless the plan was to slow everyone down to 1mph so they can read the size ten font and the passport size photos (might be a bit bigger, but still tiny)

Simon

As usual, when they come up with an example of someone killed by "speeding", we find that the accident in question was caused by a driver who was one or more of drunk, banned or unqualified.

Where are the accidents caused by sober, licensed, insured "speeders"?

Particularly those doing only just over the prosecution threshold. Nobody is going to defend doing 60 in a residential 30.

This is a disgusting and dishonest exercise in shroud-waving in pursuit of a political agenda.

Excellent line, PeterE. Perhaps we should save these nuggets.

I also like Paul's reference to cameras being "a solution to a non-existent problem".

There was a thread of sayings on the Cumbria forum. Most were regular funnies but I slipped in:

"When your only tool is a hammer, every problem resembles a nail"

... but I think it was lost on them!

Indeed, a good one!

Paul's made a posting today on http://www.police-recruitment.com/one2/ ... 9&start=15
which brilliantly encapsulates this whole camera-problem thing for me:
Quote:
When our sensible speed limit laws were prepared no one considered robot enforcement to digital standards. Enforcement practice has now overtaken common sense (as well as the original intention of the law) and the enforcement of speed limits has become greater in distraction than benefit.
