Sounds like that somebody needs to get a decent firewall.

Can you please shake hands, ake friends , just say " made a mistake mate, or i didn't read your answer just right, I've done it - hundreds of others have done it , a wrong word in a post causes aggro , something we should step back from and see if "just possibly we have given the other bloke cause to get angry with us" - no one is perfect and we've all upset someone. the true test is to say " ok mate, i've upset you ,how can we work together"

Hear hear....

When most people talk about NICs they're talking network interface cards, not Network Information Centre. So you're both right. So rather than stomping off in a huff, why not kiss and make up?

Yes, that's what I thought when I read NIC. When talking of IP allocations most people use the term "registry".

How would I change that?

You can't, you have no control over it

Photoshop? 8-)

PS won't help Ernest, the siggy is an active image that queries the viewers system for the machines IP addy.

You'll note that mine does the same, only it has the ability to see "through" any proxy that somebody may be using and go right to their machine.

Actually I was thinking of the simple approach of faking it!
Now I've read through the posts, I'm not sure my light hearted approach is appropriate, but here it is anyway!

Oh for Pete's sake, let's shut this down once and for all so we can get on with what matters,...........snipped

Thanks for the short lesson in Networking 101 Johno, but that is the sort of crap somebody is expected to understand before they even think about taking the CCNA exam.

In fact no F*&k it, i've been insulted and all out war has been declared!!

Grow up!
The one & only reason you were "insulted" was because you made a statement befitting a PCW techie. Don't worry, you are not on your own in making a basic mistake either, I've done it a few times myself before now (like F'DISKING the wrong HDD when pissed).
If you want to throw your toys out of your pram then be my guest, but do you really want to leave a forum just over a technical discussion?

Hmmm, if you had a firewall that was capable of stopping your IP addy (amongst other things) from being viewed on the internet, then you wouldn't be on the internet.

Nothing wrong with a bit of humour every now & again Ernest.

I'm unfortunate enough to have a >ROBERT< where I am employed, and although what he does in reality is not funny at all (mainly because it takes hours to put things right), my staff & I do like to kick back every now & again and have a laugh over some of the things that he does.

I've often felt like putting a web-page up like that, but never been quite sufficiently motivated... BTW, if it's your page, there's a "feral apostrophe" in "moron's" at the start of the 5th sentence.. :-)

<pedant mode = off>
