ISLAND ROADS SLIP BELOW STANDARDSBy Ross Findon
More than 100 roads on the Island could be below national safety standards according to the IW Council.
The skid resistance of roads across the Island was tested as part of efforts to secure a Private Finance Initiative that could see millions of pounds of investment in highways in the future.
However, the current concerns mean the council has had to erect warning signs on 101 stretches of road, including some major routes such as parts of the A3054, Forest Road and Yarmouth Road.
A council spokesman said they were validating the test results to find out why so many road surfaces failed to comply with the standards.
"As a precaution, while the results are being validated, temporary warning signs have been erected to cover stretches of roads where poor skid resistance has been reported.
"Drivers should take extra care to drive safely and in accordance with the prevailing conditions wherever these signs have been placed," said the spokesman.
A freedom of information act requst would be interesting to get this report. Especially if the sections of road had a speed camera installed with out fixing the road first. As these are statically dangerous roads to get a camera in the first place!
A letter of complaint to the MP for the island as to why procedures were not followed by the saftey camera partnership?
