The governments wonderful new idea is still flawed........the type of individual that dodges council tax, TV license, etc is not going to worry in the slightest if their car is clamped/impounded because they invariably own a "throwaway" car to start with.

This is BAD on two counts:

1) It discriminates. I want to know what measures will be taken against Council tax evaders that do not own a car.

2) It's just plain cowardly. Unlike with a baliff visit, the accused does not get a chance to defend themselves and explain any misunderstandings that may have occurred. How many innocent tenants are going to get their cars clamped for Council tax that the previous tenant hasn't paid?


Is it me, or are the Government thinking more and more like the Mafia every day?

Seems like a rather feeble attempt to mete out a meaningful punishment to those who don't/can't/won't pay a fine.
The drawbacks have been highlighted above.

The answer is to scrap the bloomin' TV Licence altogether and make the BBC work for its money like Sky and the commercial stations have to. No licence, nobody to chase.

They don't even have to be made to work for the money (although that is a novel thought).

The answer to ensuring that EVERYONE who watches TV actually pays for it is sooo simple........encrypt everything that is broadcast, and if you don't pay, then your viewing card gets disabled.

This really is the thin end of the wedge, OK, so you haven't paid such and such a bill, so they take away possibly the only means you have of earning money.
There really is a complete lack of joiny up thinking here.
Why is this government so desperate to scrape tha last penny out of our pockets, where is all the money going, why are they discriminating, and getting away with it, against motorists

And WHY are motorists and the voting public allowing them to get away with it.

Or is all this extra money to allow them to have a 22% pay rise?

And why are they instantly going after the cars of offenders for clamping? It's as though it were an instinctive reaction. Why not take away their TVs, stereos, ovens, or clothes; brick up the doors to their conservatories; concrete over their lawns; cut off their water supplies, or a dozen other things which would normally be theft/vandalism? No, it's always the car and only the car which is fair game, no matter how essential it is to a person's life.

Gave up the tv a year ago fed up with all the repeats and crap on tv, wouldn't mind paying but twice for stuff I've already seen.

TV licencing were sending me threatening letters for months.

Wrote in and complained, invited inspector to come view flat. only crt containing device he found was my pc monitor, his readings were from next doors flat, apologised, said he would amend records.

Still getting shitty letters, would hate to lose car for not having a tv licence for a tv I don't have !!!!

That’s the trouble, if they bring out this new law they will be clamping your car even if you don’t have a TV. I had the same thing as you when I was working abroad. Lots of threatening letters and the neighbours even said they seen a Van parading past my house on many occasions. Even had the heavy mob round a week after I returned home trying to force me into buying a licence and even read me the riot act (if you have anything to say), threatened me with court proceedings etc.

The TV licence is a stealth tax that’s why they won’t drop it, as Dratsabasti said this government are desperate.

ABSOLUTELY.....I just love crazy rulings such as this.

2 years ago, I was clamped for alleged illegal parking.

I paid the £80 release fee with no initial objection whatsoever, even though the signs were ridiculously small.
The clamping company concerned eventually (after a court case that cost them £1000's) ended up paying me £650 to cover the cost of damage to the ABS sensor & wiring loom on the vehicle they clamped.
