It's not just Ladyman - you need to plug away at the media.
Early this year a local presenter interviewed a representative of BRAKE, (following the AA announcement that they were prepared to back 80 mph limits on motorways) who was allowed to spout all sorts of nonsense unchallenged.

Subject: 80mph Speed limit on Motorways
Dear Belinda,
I heard the interview with the spokeswoman from BRAKE, and I was amazed at her lack of knowledge and understanding of the news item.
She quoted congested traffic, and the speed being unsuitable under those circumstances, and questioned the safety of the crash barriers!
I suggest that to balance her views, you should investigate the causes of accidents on the M6 in Cumbria, and the speeds recorded on it.
I dont recall anyone ever saying the crash barriers were inadequate, although the section of Shap is particularly praised for the separation of the two carriageways!
The AA has after many years of opposing the 80 mph limit, suggested that the limit could be made a part of the governments Variable Speed Limits initiative - where maximum speeds can be varied according to the conditions.
They may well be SLOWER than 70 in some circumstances.
The dual limit works well in France - 130 kph in GOOD conditions, and 110 kph in wet or inclement conditions.
When next you speak to this lady, you might wish to research the Safespeed website (
www.safespeed.org.uk) and be in a position to challenge the views of BRAKE from a position of knowledge.
Last week this same presenter interviewed Paul, and without being one sided, asked all the right questions, and led Paul to the point where he could respond with positive comments. She was knowledgable enough to ask deeper questions which then allowed Paul to elaborate on some crucial points.
