THE TIMES Public Agenda supplement 10 August

Extracts from an interview with Richard Brunstom

"As head of road policing for the Association of Chief Police Officers, he believes it is his duty to defend speed cameras from "ludicrous attacks by crazy individuals and organisations." The latest assault has come from the Tory party which last week said that some cameras were "extorting money from over-taxed motorists."

"But far from wanting to silence those who object, Brunstrom welcomes their contribution. "Some of the atttacks by groups like the Association of British Drivers are so clearly crazy that it helps to cement an alliance in your favour. It's like having the BNP come out against you."

"Brunstrom looks forward to the day when speed limiters are compulsory for cars. He has one fitted to his Mercedes E-class estate. "My car can do 160mph but the last time I exceeded the speed limit was four years ago. I used to go with the flow on motorways at 80mph, but now you'll find me on the inside lane."

Erm... isn't that breaking the law?

So, he's now comparing the ABD to the BNP  . Is he accountable to anybody? Can't we vote him out or anything?

It's cool. We can wait until he thinks the image of ABD is so bad it isn't credible then they can start supporting him every step of the way! he won't last a week!

Seriously though, I have to agree the comparison is offensive and irresponsible. But it demonstrates the attitude or perception that these people have that they think they're invincible! And not accountable. It's high time they were made to be accountable!

It sounds like a "voluntary confession" to me.
Perhaps someone from the CPS should take this further.

Application to prossecute has to be made within 6 months of the offence and trial must be sheduled within 3 years of the offence.

Something tells me this may be something of a creative anecdote!!

I think they point he's trying to get across is that even he is unable to keep below the stupidly low speed limits and so he's had to fit a limiter to stop him straying over to avoid being caught

If he has exceeded the speed limit then I wonder how many times he has "drifted a knife" into somebody ?
