Hi Folks,

I have just found this Forum and as yet still to read the latest threads.

My question is: how far must you travel before you are classified as "speeding"?

Regards

Drew

I'm pretty sure that there's no minimum distance in law, but in practice the answer will be 'far enough for the measurement apparatus to register a speed'.

Is that the sort of answer you wanted?

As far as is nessecary for the police officer concerned to form an opinion that you are exceding the speed limit, and, if nessecary, to corroborate that opinion.

But not in the case of Gatso, Truvelo and SPECS.

In years gone by the recognised "fair play" was to follow you for 2/10th of a mile (which at 30 mph is 25 sec approx and at 100 mph is around 8 sec).

Gatso - 0.5 to 0.7 seconds

Truvelo - a few feet?

SPECS - the distance between two cameras.

And remember that this entire process takes just 0.3 seconds if he happens to be looking down the sights of an Lti20:20 at the time...

And in the case of heavy parked beside a Gatso - no time or distance --the Gatso is set off and then in the eyes of the partnership you are speeding til proven innocent
