Driving to work on the M4 South Wales this morning I noticed a car approach very quickley in my rear-view mirror. As it got closer I could see the police livery.

This was a 2 lane stretch of motorway and I was on cruise at just under 75mph passing a load of slower vehicles.

He approach and sat about half a car length from my rear bumper for about 30 secs while I waited for space in the inside lane. No blue lights, no flashing headlights.

I moved to lane 1 and he accelerated away. I pulled out, straight away and sped up to about 85, no way I could catch him, he must have been doing 95-100mph, again, no lights or siren. I could see him in the distance performing the same 'sit on your a**e' manoeuvre to 3 other vehicles (I almost caught up with him twice).

What's the legal position here, could I have requested him to pull over if I'd got along side him. Could I have then made a legitimate complaint. I was fuming but couldn't get his registration (he was too quick).

I'm sure this happens many times.

A letter to the CC describing the incident

asking for a copy for their driving procedures, ask if in his opinion they were being followed.

ask him if in his opinion this incident strengthens or weakens the public respect for the police.
