only a few months and a 3 year ban?

I saw a first time offender get a 3 year ban for a bit of cannabis on a moped!

Can’t understand really, this is his fourth drink driving ban, he was already serving a 10 year ban and been caught 5 times driving while banned, gets caught again for another drink driving while in possession of cannabis, and only gets a 3 year ban. I know he’s going to jail but IMO he should have been banned for a further 10 years.

Surely the purpose of a driving ban is to prevent an offender from driving for a period of time. This person was already banned and still not only drove but drank and drove. If the court believed he should be prevented from driving to protect the public, he should have gone to prison for the length of the ban, not just a few weeks.
