And is there anything apart from speeding you feel like confessing to?

Only ever had 3, in 1994, for overtaking on double whites near the rifle range on the Sutton Scotney-Stockbridge road (anyone know it?). A fair cop.

My brother got done for the same thing, in the same place, a week later! :o

None, although wasn't always the case. Been pinged twice and was on 6 points for about two months before the first lot expired. On the confession bit (sorry if I've mentioned this before) I got pissed one evening many years ago, and since I felt okay the next day I decided to drive to work instead of get a cab. Felt pissed again by half ten or so - never, never, never again. Ever since then it's 24 hours after my last drink before I drive again, even if I never had enough to feel drunk. More if I get really bladdered, but that's unusual.

To date (touch wood!) I have had 3 points for "driving Without Due Care & Attention" about 20 years ago after I pulled out from the kerb into the path of another car (driven by a prison officer) and caused a crash.

The other driver asked me to admit responsibility but I remembered reading insurance documents that said you shouldnt, so I didnt. I did point out that he had a witness.

The policeman who interviewed me said that if the same thing happened again that I should admit the blame but deny it later! as it was unlikely that the police would have been involved if I had done this.

With the proliferation of revenue cameras I feel that a speeding conviction will get me sooner or later, to date I have relied on eyes, luck and more lately a GPS warning device to keep my licence clean.

None here.

I earned my last 3 (which brought me to 10) in June 1990.

I then had 2 years until the first set cleared.

Those 2 years saw my worst driving record for collisions, but I was never over the speed limit.

Got followed by an unmarked V6 Granada through Epping Forest, he 'clocked' me at 106 mph in my 1082 Cooper S. Coppers were very stern, warning me about excessive speed on these roads, even at 1 o'clock in the morning; he then asked me for my keys, saying that he wanted to check my car was 'fully roadworthy'...
I sat in the passenger seat of the Granny and watched as each copper took my Min up and down the Coopersale Straight on the red line...
When they had finished, I got my keys back with the warning that they would be 'looking out for me' in future and that the speed limits were there for everybody's safety. The parting comment was a diamond..."That's a sh!t-hot little motor you've got there, I got 110 out of it..!"
And they drove off into the night.

That was 1977...wouldn't happen now, would it?

Got done at 98mph on the M8. Not bad in a fiat punto!
(Before "Indignant of Tunbridge Wells replies, it was a fair cop).

Wow - all you people with no points!! Well done keeping your licences so clean!!

I've got 6 points, 3 just came off (huge relief). All SP50s, 35-40mph on 30 roads. I put it down to my recently moving to a new area - some trial and error was required before I learned the location of ALL the local enforcement spots.

I heard a story about a bloke that laminated his licence. When he got points for something or other, rather than printing a new licence, DVLA simply wrote on the laminate with a biro. When he got it back, all he did was wipe the writing off!

Don't know how true this is though...

Complete rubbish - some DVLA employees might be stupid but they aren't that stupid! Also it's what the court has imposed that counts, not what's written on your licence or even what they have recorded on the database.

What a valuable poll.

Every user on this site really should complete this!

We need this kind of info.

(6 by the way!! and 3 under negotiation  sorry to let the side down, not sure if I'm qualified to be an official spokesman)

I believe that speeding points are being handed out at random at the rate of 2 million (sets) a year. This means that about 20% of drivers get a speeding endorsement in 3 years. And 20% of those get two and 20% get three and 20% of those get 4.

This looks like this:

0 points 75.0% 25,000,000 drivers
3 points 20.0% 6,400,000 drivers
6 points 4.0% 1,280,000 drivers
9 points 0.8% 256,000 drivers
12 points 0.2% 51,200 drivers

These are broadly in line with every (modern) estimate I've ever seen, and broadly in line with the results in this forum.

If speeding convictions were given to 'the dangerous few' then we'd see many many more multiple convictions and many many more bans amongst the dangerous few.
