True - far too many of these "lanes/paths" are a sick joke.

However, ifa path runs alongside a busy dual (we have a couple around here) - I recommend using instead of the 60 mph roadway - even if this means you have to give way when the path crosses other roads.

MM is correct - when it is seaparated from the road - it ceases to be part of the road and is then subject to other by-laws. of use

Following on from their 'In the Gutter', here's more BBC News Crazy Cycle Lanes. I particularly like #2.

They've caught the disease here in Crewe, so I'm going to go out with my digital camera and snap a few. I'm sure I'll find plenty to amuse, and also to allow reflection on the sheer folly of this cycling PC bullshit

Ist a bit off topic - but matter ... two can play at being off topic - nicht

Aber doch mein kleiner Linse-Schnauzbart  .... Wenn Du Lust hast., kann ich bestimmt zu Dir sehr grob sein

But on a German und French site - we let you English witter on und on.. Und we reply ... only - they have no idea what we really said   und they get all huffy when the regulars s try to reply in English orf a sort as well.

Tell me Liebchen - do you talk very loudly und slowly when you go on your jollies . If so - I do apologise - you were perhaps the gent I direct deliberately   by "accident"  into ladies :yikes: loo at A/bahn services und then told the concierge who escorted him out by scruff of neck that time..

Well he did yell at me - und he never ask if I speak English in first place...  He must have heard me talking to the kids...

though have spoken to Paulie once on phone.. he had no problems after the first few words.... when ear had attuned to my dulcet tones of English - sort of... :hehe: Und then there was the police officer in Manchester area who fell about laughing when I ask for directions und he then said "OK Wildy" ... he knew who I was ... from reading me on line ... :?

Und icing on cake as he then told me to mind how I COAST :rotfl:

Und then I managed to convince some poor person abroad that the machine dispensing johnnies was really the one for the   disposable toothbrush - despite the rather obvious pictures

Und then there are the hours of mirth to be had in restaurants.:hehe: .. und on subject of how to cook the steaks und even then you have to be careful about what you think ist beef steak und what they really serve if you ask for this  :yikes: Und just asking for it to be cooked ist not enough .. unless you like it "blue und oozing with blood"

Und ist not how a lot of English tourists like this in reality

Und by the way - was not really rude

Linse =lentil

Schnauzbart = moustache (OK so Hitler had one.. ist the whiskers just under the nose - most unflattering.. :hehe: Ist like a walrus whisker :rotfl:

Und I just then said - he like - can be really rude ! :boxedin:

   Danke Lieber Ern

Und just to annoy even more.. ist part of [i[ Europe [/]iund more people speak Spanish than Enlsih anyway und French ist still language of law in EU und German the science und engineering one

Schade .. und you all thought just because America - und did you know that according to Betlitz (Home of the language studies) .. George Washington held referendum to decide USA official lingo

German lost out to English by must one vote und Spanish cam third und beat Italian by two votes as well - just three votes between the top[ three lingos then . It was thus a rather close thing.

Not so far fetched when you think of the immigrants/settlers und population at the time either.

Und ist area of Australia where German ist also the main lingo too.

You do not have it all your own way you know!

Letter in CW "Loathsome Lanes" states that the cyclist lives in the real world and not the DSA dreamworld.

He reports that all the lanes around his area are strewn with broken glass, parked cars and some are so narrow - they are non-existent. He mentions the potholes and the stop-start nature - whihc all mean that yoiu just do not use them.

Well - I use them when it is best to do so. Am in the fortunate postion that I can kick ass over debris etc

Another reader also criticises the poor quality of these lanes.

CW edtor though - has repsonded in pretty much the same way as Ern, MM and self...

Quote:

Some are laughably and tragically ridiculously inept and othere are just excfellent. However, we need oncsinstency from the councils and the planner/ Any lane built must at least be useable With Btirain's narrow infrastructure - there is little room for improvement insome areas and it is stupidity for driver and cyclist alike to make a cycle lane when the road is just too narrow to accommodate it. All we can do is collectively keep up the pressure on councils toproveid decent and workabel facilities for all

Oi :scratchchin: ' e must lurk 'ere

Oh and Wildy...

I went north on the A570 from the East Lancs Road towards Ormskirk last Sunday. The separate cycle paths on both sides of this 5 mile dual carriageway seemed to be properly swept and maintained, yet I did not see a single cyclist on either lane, nor on the main carriageways.

I went on the M6 earlier this month, through Cumbria.

For a period of over 5 miles, I did not see another car.

Also on page 3 of "Express" :rotfl:

There was ...:rotfl: :rotfl: gasp... !

A photo of a cycle lane which appear to be a semi circle .. around no danger in particular.. :? Was in Leeds - on pavement und appeared to be in front of two terraced houses... und this was along with all the others from Warrington's rogues gallery Manchester paper carried them all last night too...

We also had the Wheely Bad Lane in paper not so long ago... Another which led to nowhere und had huge pillars in middle of it too

Ach - I know.. it was to prepare for a slalom event

These idiots in town halls... they really have no idea.. Grrrrrrrr :furious:

Perhaps you did not notice the other cars :yikes:

Or... :hehe:

We sense you were coming .. we hid!

Ach Liebchen

-

am just teasing you...

You rode into that one :hehe:

But ist another reason too :?

- perhaps we all knew of the sub-marinated one und his up telescope..... with the flashing lights.und the flash .... so we go the other way ..

By the way - was a bit nippy und wet on Sunday - und perhaps the good cyclists of Ormskirk were making fuss of their Mama...

(I made Mad Doc my "slave" for the day .. )

There we have it. Conclusive proof where Prescott's 1.4M houses should be built instead of the South East. :)
