this one REALLY pissed me off so please excuse the fact that im not pulling punches

im pulling a trailer that i am not comfortable with (mentioned elsewhere) and i am gaining on a tanker so i check my mirror etc and pull into L2. im creeping up in the middle lane, no problem watching an artic gaining on me in my lane. by the time he is on my bumper, my cab is passing the rear axle of the tanker. next thing i know he his in L3 passing me but only just. although his speed is significantly higher, his lane discipline (or control of vehicle) is certainly not and as he is around half way past, his wheels are on the white line forcing me to edge slightly over towards the tanker who obviously saw all this and he also moved over. i backed off selecting the appropriate hand gesture and pulled into L1 behind the tanker (i lost a lot of speed) who is now half way on the hard shoulder as this foreign dickhead is now not only in L2 but on his way over the line to L1. he pulls back into his own lane and carries on.

we need these twats off our roads

nope. didnt catch the flag on the plate but the numbers werent irish. white number plate on the back and it was a left hooker. i was more interested in watching his position with regards to the white lines (and my truck) then deciphering the country of origin.

i will put my hands up and admit to a growing unrest towards them. to the extent where if one asked me for directions, the response would probably be something like, head south, follow signs for dover, jump on a ferry and piss off back to europe. im not the most diplomatic person here

the reasons for my feelings are mainly off topic in this site with the exception of the accidents involving them and the traffic laws that they consistently break regarding speeds, rests, driving time etc. im not going into them here though. the truckers site are more suitable for debates such as these

Well done for spotting the danger, and sacrificing the "built up momentum" (I recognise this is very real with a heavy trailer on the back, despite being a car driver) to avoid what otherwise could have been a major incident.

seen them too many times Roger. having one come up in L3 certainly gives away the fact that its an idiot at the helm so its sets off the alarm bells on the oh-shit-ometer

fortunately enough, the tanker driver was aware of him too. could have been nasty if one of us wasnt paying attention. i always back off and create a space between myself and people like that. had one polish truck almost wipe me out on the A36 south of salisbury. he got a blast of the horn and similiar gestures too. again, couldnt control his vehicle and veered into my lane

I saw one do the same thing a few weeks ago in the wee small hours on the M62. Fairly shot past two other LGVs in L1&L2, can't possibly have been limited. Can't say it was foreign registered since it caught me completely by suprise. Showed how quick these beasts can overtake though.

Try driving in the US, the unlimited trucks there are often doing 75mph plus, which can be a real shock to a UK driver that is used to being able to beat HGVs when joining a DC road....
