My main qualification and experience is a head-on collision with another vehicle... removed a catalogue of misfortune

If I was to lower myself to your level I might be tempted to say that you associate with a collection of motorists who unfortunately are/were as inept as you appear to be... However, I won't other than to suggest that knowing people who've suffered in road accidents makes you no more qualified to comment upon driving than I would be to comment upon neurosurgery after watching an episode of "Casualty".

Of course, thoughtlessly annoying slowpokes is just a bit of fun for you - you are so fine, and qualified and experienced that the real world has not impinged on you (yet). Give it time, pogo, give it time.

I wouldn't dream of "thoughtlessly annoying slowpokes"... The last thing I want when driving is the stress, irritation and extra hazards caused by the irrational behaviour of other drivers. Odd though, innit, that I as a "fine, qualified etc" driver, who's friends and acquaintances (many of them met through "motoring-related" activities) are also generally very good and safe drivers, have not been party to such a tragic catalogue of death and injury... "Birds of a feather" perchance?

Also, I don't think that I've ever stooped so low as to wish ill upon you during our many discussions...

Absolutely – obstruction is almost as bad as or even worse than ‘stealth overtaking’. But we have no control over the guy in front, no matter what JD does to ‘wake them up’ by ‘unleashing his machine’, or whatever nonsense he was on about. We only have control about the good things we do to improve things – that’s the point here – good faith is the thing to promote, not horsepower solutions.

[My bold]

Basingwerk, lets set the silliness aside for just one second can we?

In this discussion forum about driving, driving culture and all the reast, I'm sure that the majority would agree with the part I've bolded in the above statement. And if we take a stroll through the many threads I'm pretty sure we'd find plenty of evidence to support that assertion.
However, I certainly believe that every now and again a real turd of an attitude, encapsulated in what someone writes or the way they write it, floats to the surface. But you cannot use isolated views or opinions as the means by which to calibrate the general consensus of the majority. And that goes for the way things work out on the roads doesn't it?

Yeah - it was that 'unleash' stuff that really got me going, Jamie. It made it sound like comic book stuff, and to me, it did not impart the seriousness of the driving responsibility.

I talk tough talk, but I also have the experience of a smash – and I don’t mean rolling a car once or twice or clipping a hedge. I know it’s boring, but the impact of a heavy smash DOES impart the seriousness of the driving responsibility. Tongue in check, I would recommend a big smash to anybody, just to see if it changes them!

I can't imagine why, but SafeSpeed has made a mistake, and given ME a final warning (!), not they guy who posted some rough stuff. Find the real culprit, SafeSpeed - that stuff had nothing to do with me whatsover.

I'd prefer that they learned to drive safely instead - "COAST" isn't just the bit between the land and the sea... Interesting isn't it that some drivers are "just so unlucky" and they're always having accidents, whereas others are "really lucky" and never have them... "Luck"? Maybe not.

You’ll have to give me more to work on than that. Now, which is this ‘argument’ that you take exception to?

You haven’t even told me what ‘argument’ you mean – how can I debate a mystery argument?

You are mis-using a potent weapon...your obvious intelligence. You could conduct the debate at a much higher level if you so choose.

I (and a few others to boot I'm sure) would be much more inclined to support some of the stuff you say if you didn't couch it in such a cringeworthy and embarassing manner.

Yeah I was going to say........

In addition, I would suggest that rolling a car is fairly serious..... I can snap your neck like a twig.

Finally BW, I hope you're "cheap overpowered sports car" and "horsepower solutions" comments weren't intended for me, although reviewing the posts it's hard to pin that on anyone else who's posted recently. If it is meant for me then I'd suggest that your are overly presumptious. That's something I really grudge. You know the square root of fuck all about me, my driving habits and my personal choices.

I'd thank you in future to keep your opinions and suppositions to yourself.

If you read what I actually wrote rather than what you wish I wrote, you'll find that I wasn't being sarcastic about "victims", I was being critical of the ineptitude that, all too frequently, leads to these tragic events - an ineptitude, combined with bloody-mindedness of a staggering degree, that you appear to champion.

And where, pray, did I say you were?

Do you work for "The Sun" by any chance? If you don't, I'm sure they'd be quite interested in a man with your obvious talent for fiction.

That’s a relief – perhaps now you understand why "victims" would choose to drive more slowly than they did before a crash, and maybe now you possess understanding about how to treat such people respectfully.

This is a change in demeanour from you – well done! A few pages back you were boasting about how you’d pissed off slow drivers with your antics. Keep it up and who knows - just keep practising the diplomacy.

It would be easier for me if your posts made sense! On the one hand, you’re boasting about getting flashed by slowpokes and what good sport it all is, and the next minute you tell me how serious you are at driving, then you make some fun about road traffic victims and diminish their valid experience (I am beginning to think you’ve never had a smash), and the next thing you appear to be telling downright lies!

You’re all over the place, pogo – get a grip.

The sad truth is that by driving slower and causing frustration to other drivers (rightly or wrongly) your 'victims' are more likely to be involved in / cause another accident.

On the contrary, Pogo makes perfect sense to me, and I'm sure the vast majority of other contributors on this thread. It's you who's bouncing around between preaching ethics and personal attacks.

I have never know someone with such a talent for twisting facts and quotes into what you want them to state - in fact you're even better than most MPs at this. Congratulations - that takes real skill.

My message to the others is simple, as ever – screw-you tactics (of any sort) have no place in the road system. Respect for other road users is in short supply. These ‘competitive’ drivers are getting mixed up - by all means, pay and go on the track, but don’t let your bollocks rule your brain out on the road system.

I don’t need anyone to validate this. Let’s be honest for once - it’s so obviously right, isn’t it?
