Soon after midnight this evening (i.e. in the very early morning of 10th June 2006)

Some amazing revelations about the behaviour of camera partnership staff. REALLY. Don't miss it.

Paul you did an excelent presentation.

What a wonderful article and what a load of hypocrites the police are when their camera vans and the head of the Camera Safety Partnership are caught speeding themselves.

For the benefit of others could you please do a résumé of what this was all about.

I hope we get to see the videos taken of them on television.

I didn't get enough warning to set up to record it, but the essence is as follows:

Freelance broadcaster Adrian John has caught a number of people from Kent and Medway partnership speeding. This culminated in a 4 mile follow of the top boss of the Kent partnership - he was caught on video exceeding a number of speed limits on the way to work. Adrian confronted him and asked him to explain his behaviour. He said: "You'll have to talk to our PR people."

Adrian has been working on the best way of taking the information to the public, but this evening he received a visit from two Police officers threatening him with action for harrasement.

Didn't see your posting there, sorry mate!

17 hits and the URL may mean a few more ears, though!

I've emailed the program with some comments, but will be turning in soon (full carbs rebuild on my mate's Midget tomorrow, so need to be 'compus mentis'!)

Good to put a voice to the avatar!

Josh

Errm - perhaps they were very naughty boys and had a detector running to tell them when the gun was being operated....

Just a guess of course, but rocket science it ain't, mate! 8-)

Why exactly? (serious question - I can think of a number of possible reasons)

I didn't notice that choice of words, but I don't think it was intended too literally. Obviously, as you say, no one could actually know for sure what the operator in the van was doing.

But GPS is for us good boys who just want to be warned that we are on a bit of the Earth near a fixed Government Taxation Device. I meant something like a K-band Super-Snooper, or similar that, in a stationary vehicle, would go 'MOBILE THEIVING GIT WARNING!' as you transmit your radar/lidar 'calibrated good-enough-for-rock-and-roll' motion detector signals. I know that these can trigger in error, but they are more reliable than equipment that sees brick walls doing 28 mph...

I don't think everyone thinks that - although i think most people believe they will zap any vehicle they can get £60 from!

You are not seriously suggesting SCP operators use their discretion, and only zap those who are driving dangerously - not just those over an arbitrarily set limit, are you?

It's sad that the harrassment law is being (ab)used in this way, it was predicted that it could be used in such cases, where journos, reporters and photographers would be threatened for doing their jobs.

My guess is that it is just a threat however, if it ended up in court then it would be a lot of negative publicity and they wouldn't want that. The SCP's are scared stiff of anything bad being said against them, you can see the evidence in the minutes, they actually count the number of articles and chart them according to their perception of whether it was positive/neutral/negative.

Exactly the way I see it too. :yesyes: (And I don't disagree with the bit I've already snipped...)

So what came of this in the end? Is he going to take it further? This seems like an ideal opportunity to get some bad press for the scamera partnerships and highlight the ridiculousness of the whole situation.

not at all, we do not have the remit to do dangerous driving (yet)

i have only had 2 complaints against me for speeding in my van this year so far, 1 for not stopping at a stop junction, 3 for illegal parking and another 2 for driving using a phone

i dont know the 2 using a phone were actualy radio use (jacket mounted)
the one for not stopping at a stop sign and applying my handbrake looking right and left before releasing the handbrake and driving off (guilty as charged :o )
the 3 for illegal parking - not challenged, as all our parking areas comply with the local traffic regulations

the 2 for speeding - 25 / 30 tops in a 30, 60 on a dual, no supporting evidence
