If if really was 33-35 probably not. (Unless the scamerati are very hectic around there)

Ist difficult to say for sure. As you are in probationary - they would not offer Speed Course .. which ist still daft as ist the young who are still developing their skills und we should be instilling good practice und trying to keep them to the essentials of COAST driving.

However... as I understand their revised guidelines .. und they are just that .. guidelines und not set in concrete..

This ist Lancs only und per announcement und some private message from pal on another site .. ist in the "know"

Up to 35 mph (10% plus 2) - you get a warning letter telling you to behave or else.

Up to 10% plus 5 (ie to 38 mph .. 49 mph in 40 mph etc) ... they offer Speed Course if you are past probation or not attended one for three years.

After that .. ist fine und points.

That ist the official line .. I hope ist just a letter. Try to get a useful gadget if you can afford one.. und look up their site for cam sites as well. und mobile timetables

Possibly, however I believe ACPO guidlines are 10% + 2 for prosecution threshold, meaning 35 is the prosecution point.

No offence, but if you are 18 I suspect that your car is not what we might describe as modern, so fairly likely that your speedo is over-reading by around 10%. If you had 35 on the clock, chances are you were doing 29.

By the way, what were you thinking? Not looking at the speedo, remember road safety requires you above all to look at it all the time. What happens through that big glass thing in front of you is irrelevant!

If you have a GPS receiver or SatNav you might want to check and see what your 'indicated' 35mph actually is... I've worked out my speedo overreads by about 8% or so, although I tend to take the indicated speed as my actual speed, but it's always nice to know that if I happen to not look at the speedo (shame on me) for a while, due to other more important things, that I have a bit of a 'buffer zone' which I can slip into...

I drive a 51 or an 02 Ford Ka, I say 51 or 02 because we don't have number plates like England, they're different, and that's roughly when it was bought...

See what the government really want you to do is concentrate more on the speedo and more on watching for scams, and less time watching for little freddy who has chased his football into the road... Don't do that though, bad bad! Most important thing is to concentrate on COAST skills... As Wildy has already mentioned...

Safe driving

All of the newer Citroens that I have measured with my GPS have only over-read by about 1mph.

Yea, my insurance is through the roof, in my opinion anyway... It's about £2600 for a 1.3l Ka, fully comprehensive though... But I'd really like to see them give me insurance if I'm caught speeding... Dad's insurance is £300 or something for a 2.0l Focus... My Gran was complaining that her insurance was £600, and thats for an old 1.1l Polo...

the important word is "newer" - tyre wear alone can contribute a massive amount of discrepancy, I think I worked it out once that a difference in tread depth of about 5mm can have something like 4.8% effect on the theoretical circumference - which would have a direct impact on the speedo reading.

If I could find the calculations I used I would post them here but I can't. So I won't.

Tyre pressure may also have a significant effect on the speedo ... I assume (but hae never tried, so don't quote me) that in a brand new car with everything else perfectly balanced, high overinflation could cause the speedo to under-read?

Agree with all the points raised so far. You may be OK based on what you say your speedo was reading and if the doo-dah did not start frothing and foaming and flashiing.. you'll be OK.

Do have a browse around the site and the forum - especially the "Improve Driving" debates and if you do a google for COAST - Iwe've tried to explain how to fine tune observation and aniticipation skills.

I agree with Sixy. I have been driving for above 48 years and I only have a clapped out Pug 406 with a W plate on it.

There's no justice!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Semitone, my C4 with the newish tyres (8,000 miles on them) and at the right pressures read 1mph below the actual.
