Does anyone know of a company that can apply a layer of individually removable layers of plastic film to a medium like you see on a formula 1 driver's helmet visor?

You're talking about tear-offs? They are normally made to fit a specific helmet. I'm not aware of any company that would make them to fit something else, but then again, I don't know what you want to put them on. :?

Here's the first google hit for helmet tear off so you can see what I mean.

My old helmet had two nylon studs either side of the visor, and the acetate "rip-offs" were impaled on the studs via a punched hole.

There are HUGE numbers of plastics, but for optical use, you want one with good clarity and stability.
Try contacting 3M or ICI and ask their advice - you usually get a sample in the post, or VT Plastics near Warrington.
