I guess we've all played fantasy 10 car garage (Veyron, F1, SLR, Gallardo, Cinquecento etc...)? In this month's EVO magazine they have a road test of the Veyron (and Carrera GT, Zonda and Enzo, the lucky gits) and in a side feature they detail how each of them would spend £1million on a fantasy garage. In a slightly different twist to the game, you can choose one, and only one car from each of the 10 manufacturers below - any period, any cost - and put it in your garage. What would your stable look like? You need to have a suitable car for every day / family driving in there, they can't all be trackday specials / exotics!

Ferrari
Porsche
Mercedes
BMW
PSA Peugeot Citroen
Fiat
Honda
Volkswagen
Ford
GM / Vauxhall

In addition you are allowed to have 1 "other" car, from any other marque.

Go on, it's a bit of fun for a Friday afternoon!

My choice:

Ferrari: F40. Just for it's looks, that massive spoiler looks like nothing else in the world.
Porsche: 993 911. Last of the air cooled 911's, above any other car that I may one day drive, this is the one I aspire to. I ummed and ahhed about putting this over the Carrera GT, but in the end, this is the car I would like to drive.
Mercedes: SLR. Cos it's a Mclaren, it sounds like nothing on earth, and I could drive to the yacht in Monaco that'll I've never have either.
BMW: M5. Everyday car.
PSA Peugeot Citroen: Original D6 with the directional lights.
Fiat: I've always had a soft spot for the original fiat 500's, so one of them
Honda: NSX. Almost as beatiful as the F40 IMVHO
Volkswagen: 21 window microbus, lovingly restored with a 993 engine fitted, and seatbelts so we can use this as the family car!
Ford: Original GT40.
GM / Vauxhall: That 220 thing that Lotus makes for them, Vx220 turbo? Mainly for blasting about on a track.

The "other" car: A Lotus Caterham 7 in green with yellow nosecone and the registration number KAR 120C.

go on, just a bit of fun - what would you have?

ooo - I like these sorts of things, ok here goes

Ferrari: Have to agree the F40 almost without question, if wasn’t that then it would be a 250 GT, but I think the F40 would actually be more fun to drive.

Porsche: Never been much of a Porsche fan TBH, I know they are wonderful cars but they just leave me cold, in which case I would probably go for a classic, something like the 356 convertible.

Mercedes: 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG, just love them, must be in black

BMW: Another marquee that I have ignored, again I feel nothing for them, but the M5 is indeed a great car so would agree with you on this one.

PSA Peugeot Citroen: Can’t knock your taste here either, the D6 for me too.

Fiat: Fiat-Dino-Spyder-2400-'70

Honda: S2000 I think, competent fun car with a bit of power and some good looks, looks fun.

Volkswagen: The original split screen camper van, can I put a Porsche turbo engine in it?

Ford: GT40 Original road going version.

Vauxhall: Lotus Carlton, I just love lotus collaboration with mainstream manufacturers, I nearly said Lotus Cortina for my Ford choice.

Any other marquee – TVR Sagaris – klingon battle cruiser meets nuclear weapon meets Stormtrooper, I would use for it’s original purpose - chasing tree huggers down :)

Ferrari: 360 Modena, because it still has the Ferrari drop dead gorgeousness about it, without being too in-yer-face.

Porsche: 968, because it's the first model I knew about (thanks to Matchbox  ) and I've thus got a bit of a soft spot for it.

Mercedes: SL55 AMG - the MD at work has a 430 which always makes me drool when I pass it in the car park, and I quite fancy the idea of having that body sitting on top of an engine and running gear that's been twiddled by AMG...

BMW: M5 - big comfy saloon just perfect for eating up those long motorway journeys, but with a beast of an engine up front for those times when you fancy a break from genteel cruising

PSA Peugeot Citroen: 407 coupe, for those times when you want something that looks as if it might have escaped from the Ferrari design studio, but isn't going to require a second mortgage to repair if some scrote decides to indulge in a bit of mindless vandalism whilst it's parked up somewhere public.

Fiat: Brava, because there's just something about its appearance that appeals to me.

Honda: NSX, because I think it looks rather lovely too...

Volkswagen: Phaeton W12, because of THAT engine

Ford: Mustang, because it's a Mustang, y'know what I mean.

GM / Vauxhall: Holden Commodore HSV, it's another big cruiser like the M5, and it'd be a nice upgrade from my current Omega :)

For my any-marque choice, it has to be a red Dodge Viper RT10, a 1:1 scale version of the Bburago model I used to gaze at every night as I drifted off to sleep...

Stuff it. I'll skip the list and have just an Aston DB5 with a disc brake conversion and rear axle swapped in from a DB7 (like the one in this month's Top Gear mag.)

Sorry - don't want a Ferrari, BMW, PSA Pug/Cit, Honda

I will have:

Porche - original Speedster
Fiat - Fiat "500" Arbarth
Volkwagen - Splitty Van - I'll take the Porche engine in that!
Ford - Original "Consul Capri"
Vauxhall/GM - a 60s Corvette

What I also want is:

My current Saab plus a few suspension and performance mods

Bristol 410 - modernised by Bristol in terms of suspension, brakes, air con etc

I'm not a big car fan TBH, but I'd like an Ariel Atom so that would be my 'other'.

My fantasy garage would be:

Porsche 911
Subaru Imprezza WRC
Landrover 90 TD5 fully off road kitted (snorkel winches etc)
Skoda Octavia 1.9pd (every day car, it's inverted snobbery)
Bowler Wildcat (Anyone remember Richard Hammond's "I am a driving God" moment??)

Fiat. NO
Honda. either an NSX or an 06 Civic
VW. MKII 16v Golf GTi 3dr big bumper model in Oak Green please

I'm no fan of 'exotic' looking cars. They are too ostentatious, too impractical and attract the wrong sort of attention (from both ends of the legal spectrum). And far too much of a worry when they are parked!

I hate front wheel drive and have spent DECADES avoiding front wheel drive cars. I hate cars that isolate me from the road. I demand those messages that tell me things about available grip. I hate automatic gearboxes. I insist on being in control. I hate cars that shout 'race me' to idiotic boy racer types. I hate cars that stand out in the traffic - I want to blend.

I love cars that reward a finely balanced driving style and talk to me all the time. I love cars designed for drivers. I love cars with the power to allow overtaking at will.

So give me a dirty old BMW M5 in perfect mechanical condition with NO BADGES and I'll be happy.

Oh look. I've got one. Shame it's been off the road for 18 months because I can not possibly afford to run it on Safe Speed income. :)

But my current desires are entirely different. I'm running an old campervan as a mobile office so that I can keep the campaign running all the time. Present vehicle desires are very much centred around a very high spec custom campervan / mobile office. With Safe Speed signwriting...

I really resisted posting because I can barely count to ten, let alone think of ten cars that I'd like, but here goes:

1. Ford RS200 - preferably the solo red one (used to be my father's company car!)
2. Land Rover 101 Forward Control, perhaps with optional driven trailer,
3. Honda NSX - yellow
4. Mazda MX5 - probably a mk2 1.8s
5. Fiesta XR2 mk1 - black.
6. Lancia Stratos
..and as handy says, I'll need some practical cars, so..
7. BMW M5
8. Golf TDi 4motion
9. Lotus Carlton
10. Renault Clio Trophy - current car, still in the honeymoon period so gets in the garage.

Reads the question more carefully - oh I see, I've got to choose from that list. I said I was thick!

Ferrari - 250 GTO
Porsche - Carrera S4 is it? The 4wd one?
Mercedes - C320CDi
BMW - M5
PSA Peugeot Citroen - 205 GTi 1.9
Fiat - Coupe Turbo
Honda - NSX
Volkswagen - Golf GTi mk 2 or modern Golf TDi 4motion
Ford - RS200
GM / Vauxhall - Lotus Carlton

My 'exotic'? Still Trophy #383

Actually, why isn't Renault on the list? I could quite easily half fill my garage with a Clio Trophy, an old Clio Williams, a mk 2 Clio V6, a Megane 225 F1, an Alpine, etc.

If I had to select any 10 vehicles whatsoever:

Cars:

Ferrari 250GT - Probably the best looking car of all time:

Aston DB5 - Probably the second best looking car of all time. Has James Bond coolness factor:

BMW M5 - One of the most understated high-performance cars (in E34 marque). New one just as good, but styling not as conservative.

Skoda Fabia vRS - One of the best performance hatches you can buy, and it's amazingly reliable and well built using better parts than new VWs. Chippable to close to 200bhp with over 300lb.ft of torque for less than 500 quid. Oh, it'll also do ~55 mpg combined!

Ferrari : Nope. I'd never be able to get out of it after having (somehow) got in it.
Porsche : Nope. ditto
Mercedes : SLK500
BMW : Big lazy 7 series auto - or one of the old 2500"E" cars with the very lazy auto.
PSA Peugeot Citroen : One of the quirky ahead-of-its-time big Citroens with the bake bean tin thingy on the column. I forget what it was known as.
Fiat : One of the vans with three-front seats. Very practical for carrying a couple of mates to do a building job or whatever - and plenty of stowage space for stuff invisible to the low life. (again I forget the model number).
Honda A big dilemma - I like many, but... it would have to be the 2.2 4WS Accord Exec auto that was almost hand built during late eighties/early nineties.
Volkswagen A Beetle, preferably Carmen ghia trimmed.
Ford A Zephyr six or Zodiac, bench seat auto (Z-cars style)
GM / Vauxhall : Lotus Carlton without question.

My wild card: No laughing please... an Austin Maxi. Revolutionary and way ahead of its time.

Hmmm.....

Ferrari - 288GTO. Precursor to the F40 and much prettier - like a 308GTB on steroids.
Porsche - 959 in white. The original four-wheel-drive supercar.
Mercedes - Brabus CL-class SV12 S Biturbo. A bit of a one-trick pony but you can pretend you're at Santa Pod on every straight.
BMW - Alpina B5. Less manic than the current M5 and pretty much as quick.
PSA Peugeot Citroen - Citroen SM. More to admire than to drive as it would break down before the end of the road.
Fiat - 130 Coupe from the early 70s. Big elegant 2-door.
Honda - NSX. Handling by Ayrton Senna.
Volkswagen - Phaeton V10 TDI. Or if VW includes Lamborghini, a Gallardo Spyder instead.
Ford - BF Falcon XR6 Turbo from Australia, in dark metallic purple.
GM / Vauxhall - Lotus Carlton. They wanted to ban it, that's good enough reason.

Wildcard - a 1962 Facel-Vega Facel II.

some great lists here - I've even revised one of my choices, for the GM car I'm going to ditch that VX200 thing in favour of the Lotus Carlton.

Another list could be "cars I have lusted after", which would include the Lotus Talbot Sunbeam.

And you have all missed the Monaro VXR.
