Well - CW tells me to use energy gels and sports drinks instead of my usual water.

Now I do like Malt loaf with BUTTER! Ham and cheese butties , bananas and all those sinful things from France

So what else do you reckon I should be eating here - given these epic climbs in the back of the Austrian beyond.

malt loaf is pretty good energy-wise.

gels are ok if you can stomach them. (hi-5 chocolate flavour, yum)

i usually start off with energy drink until i cant take anymore!... so usually take one bottle of energy drink & one of water.

other than that energy bar of choice, jaffa cakes, nut/raisin/choc mixes, flapjack, bagels, pretzels (good for replacing those electrolytes).


but really discipline is the name of the game, eat regularly & drink even more regularly, even when you dont want to!

Spent some time this week - riding to get ready for this "epic" with the "riff raff" fringe. Seem to be building back the stamina.

Wonder food of the week in CW is Honey... rich in vitB/C/ calcium,, iron.. potassium and sodium... as well as amino acids and enzymes.

Apparently it's also a "natural sedative" and helps keep you calm and relaxed!

Hmmmm! I do put thin smearing of honey on my toast sometimes

there are also some gels based on honey... honey-stingers or something i beleive.. never tried them.

my longest cycle in a race was last years half ironman (60ish miles) where i took 2 x SIS GO bars with me.... one was tropical and a struggled to force it down and wondered if i'd manage the second.. which was choc-orange flavour ... which i couldn't get enough of!

I am to be the "roady support".. we are talking longest ride und those Alpine passes are not easy.

I have ideas as to what I should include in my support kit for the family und other riders in this international charity event... but even so.. would welcome any ideas .. however WILD as to what I should also consider putting in stores.

I have a list.. but I think some things lack. Please PLEASE PLEASE... und I WANT our lurkers/browsers who are a bit more seasoned at this sort of thing than me to just register und offer their kindest advices und who knows? ....they may join in.. realise we are not "anarchists" but genuinely wanting better than what we have.

We may even just build that elusive bridge of road user cameraderie und understanding - und together really make our roads safe und pleasant for all to use.
